Any good paying freelance writing jobs

Any good paying freelance writing jobs?
I'm creating 2 websites but I don't have much time right now to finish them, so I was wondering if I can find any good paying freelance writing job for now, when my websites are finished i won't need to write anymore but just for now because I'm too busy, helium does not pay too much, so I would like to know if I can find any website that pays at least 1 $ per article, I don't need to make money, I'm not in a hurry but I want to have some money in my paypal in order to sell books on ebay, because I'm in lebanon, I'm not allowed to send money from my bank account to paypal directly. Any suggestions?

Since there are hundreds of experienced, professional freelance writers out there, I'm sure they will be first choice for any such jobs.
2 :
Magazines and newspapers by far pay the most. Usually over a $100 per essay or article. Nonetheless there are sites which you could try. Good luck.
3 :
It is extremely tough to make a living as a freelance writer. If you have lots of experience, you might get lucky, but outlets are cutting back on expenses. Some connections really help. And if you can find a place that pays $1 a word, let me know and we'll both write for it

Has anyone here earned decent money doing freelance work

Has anyone here earned decent money doing freelance work?
I want to quit my 9-5 job for the freedoms of being a freelancer. I wonder if it's worth the switch and if anyone has made it through, where they earn enough to pay their monthly bills. Thanks.

I have made a fair amount of money, but nothing to live on. I've kept my 9-5 and done freelance on the side. It IS quite possible to be a successful freelancer (if there's a demand for your type of work) but there is a key component here, and that is..... You must be VERY organized and seeking out knew customers a LOT! It's really difficult, and freelance work isn't reliable in itself. But if you want it and you have a 6+ month emergency fund, go for it!
2 :
I have worked in freelance for a long time and to be honest, it really depends on your position. Are you doing web design, Customer Service, Copyrighting, writing articles, etc? It also depends really for who you work for and how long. I remember that I had gotten a good offer to make a book for $1K USD, but I didn't have enough time to do it so, I just declined the offer. Dumb I know, but I had school and yeah that's more important. So, again it truly depends on what type of freelance work you're doing. Sometimes you may even see a good offer while at other times you may see a bad offer. I wouldn't recommend quitting your job as freelance is on-demand basis and there won't always be offers available to pay the bills. If you want to make a living than maybe you should think about selling some of your work over the net like web designs or services that you can offer to companies and individuals, but be warned, there's no guarantee that you'll make a living from this it's a huge chance and you can do this at your own risk. I hope this helps you out

What kind of jobs can a writer get besides writing fiction, pays decent and has job security

What kind of jobs can a writer get besides writing fiction, pays decent and has job security?
and is not freelance? Besides newspaper articles. I am also under the impression breaking into this field is difficult. Am I wrong?

Duh?
2 :
write a play
3 :
Well, I'm a published author & have a contract with a publishing company. 1. You could get an agent & publish a book. 2. Write newspaper/mag articles.
4 :
Working for a publisher. Tech writing for a corporation. Journalism. ---- They're, Their, There - Three Different Words. Careful or you may wind up in my next novel. Pax - C
5 :
music poetry my favorite
6 :
get a solid job as a journalist at a newspaper or a magazine, possibly an editor for a publishing company or possibly a screenwriter for television or the movies
7 :
Lots of big companies hire technical writers to write documentation for their products, software, etc. or to write employee manuals. You could also be a staff writer for a newspaper or other publication.
8 :
Technical writing, medical writing - but that seems dull.
9 :
Substitute "writer" for "hooker" and "writing fiction" for "having sex" and I think you'll have my answer. Don't quit though, if it's you passion. peace
10 :
You could work for a publisher (books, magazines, news). If not writing your own material, you might edit or re-write. There are many writing tasks in media, advertising, film, etc.
11 :
Work for an Advertising agency. It's hard to be a writer. It's a terrible profession, as you're likely to spend years toiling, living from paycheck to paycheck and never being a major success. If you can be something else, I recommend it. But if you BURN with the desire to write, then there's no other career that works for you, even if it is hard to make a living at it.
12 :
Make a website or portfolio choosing products and writing captions or descriptions. It's called Ad Copy. Send with a cover letter to ad copy sites, or hit the sidewalk with that portfolio, taking it to managers of stores that carry such products. You'd be signed, under contract, and responsible for blurbs or descriptions. I don't know how hard it is to break into this field.
13 :
all secure writing jobs are hard to break into. the only choice for someone who wants to make a living writing is freelance. i'd recommend you look for a secure job with benefits that is a little bit boring: admin, receptionist, etc. a job that doesn't suck your energy dry and where there's less work than time. maybe you can get some writing done at your desk, but you'll mostly have to write on the side.
14 :
I'd recommend getting some stuff published. It means you'd have to freelance a bit, but if you've been published it's much easier to get a steady job with a protfolio. Find magazines (or any publication, really) and start sending queries. I know a guy who writes about fiber optics! You can get a job writing about pretty much anything, so find something you know about and write! But say you did get a steady job with a regular paycheck and benefits and no worries at all - what would you write about ;-) It is impossibly hard to get a job editing at a publishing house or writing at a newspaper/magazine. It isn't nearly as easy as "go get a job" doing those things. All you can hope for is getting a foot in the door

Can I claim my internet and/or electricity as tax expenses as a freelance writer

Can I claim my internet and/or electricity as tax expenses as a freelance writer?
I work from home reviewing computer-based video games for a living, and the articles are published online. I spend maybe 6 hours a day working on articles, so it goes without saying that without internet (or electricity) I could not do my job. Can I claim these things as expenses? And would I have to file form 8829 if I did, or could I just add them to my Schedule C?
United States - 4 Answers

1 :
Of course they are how you make your living. Without them you could not earn an income.
2 :
Electricity is very minimal. Maybe 5 cents a day. To write that off, you need records showing how much is used. If you use your Internet connection for anything OTHER than strictly business, you cannot write anything off.
3 :
For a home office, all off your home expenses are tax-deductible based on the business percentage of your home. That includes your mortgage payment, utilities, insurance, real estate taxes, garbage, water, etc. To figure out the percentage of your home that’s used for business, divide the square footage of the area used for business by the square footage of your entire home. For example, if your home office is 12 feet by 12 feet, that’s 144 square feet. If your entire home is 1,400 square feet, then diving 144 by 1,400 gives you a home office space that’s 10% of your home. Therefore 10% of the qualifying expenses of your home can be attributed to business use and the remaining 90% are personal use. So if your monthly power bill is $200 and 10% of your home qualifies for business use, you can consider $20 of the bill a business expense and the remaining $180 a personal expense. For more details see IRS Publication 587, titled Business Use of Your Home. If you’re self-employed you must generally report expenses for business use of your home on IRS Form 8829. Here's more information: http://moneygirl.quickanddirtytips.com/home-office-deductions.aspx
4 :
Do you have a separate space that you work from that you NEVER use for anything personal? If not, then no to the electricity. Do you ever use your internet connection for non work stuff? If yes, then you cannot claim the internet as an expense. Claim anything like this and you can expect to be audited because so many people, like you, push the envelope into tax evasion.

Freelance graphic design

Freelance graphic design?
I work full-time as a graphic designer, but am looking to take on a few small freelance jobs in my spare time. I have a mac and a decent printer. What else to I need or need to know??

Well of course you need the design programs to begin with. Alot of it depends on where you are located and what your skill level is. Check out some of the direct mail companies in your area. Alot of them hire freelance production artists. You won't get rich with them, but you can make a decent living. Working at home freelance style takes alot of discipline though.
2 :
try looking on craigslist for freelance gigs. be sure you're well-versed in adobe photoshop and illustrator. a big plus if you know HTML/CSS and layout design for websites. and also, having a good grasp of typography will come in handy, so make sure you know your Helveticas and Garamonds.

Hope these job websites can help you. http://hotjobs.yahoo.com http://www.craigslist.org http://www.usejob.com

How can I find freelance work in Holland

How can I find freelance work in Holland?
I want a work-from-home job in the Netherlands--writing, editing or proofreading. Where can I find access to these jobs without having to pay a website?

Try these, not sure if you can work from home, but at least it's a start! (Next time try to post your question in a more suitable section; London is not the place to look for a job in NL!) Good luck with your search! http://www.expatica.com/source/jobs_show_item.asp?subchannel_id=169&item_id=6245&country=Netherlands&type_of_job=Media http://www.englishlanguagejobs.com

How much should I charge for freelance photography

How much should I charge for freelance photography?
I have been asked to take a few pictures for a company and I am just starting out. It is about a 3 hour job and they will pay for my dinner since it is a night shoot and want the pictures to look non-professional, more candid.
Photography - 2 Answers

1 :
$350 plus usage would be a minimum. I bill at $700 plus usage, but that has to do with the PR or media budget and clients past experience with my work. Being given dinner does not decrease your fee. It is what is called "expenses" always added to your invoice if not paid in advance. Candid does NOT mean non-professional. It only means non-posed, you work always should be professional.
2 :
I agree with fotoace. Dinner is a courtesy, not payment. If they are hiring a shooter, they DO want professional images and candid vs:formal has nothing to do with professional vs: non professional. If they wanted them to look non professional, they would be taking shots with their camera phones instead. The amount you should charge depends on your level of expertise. If you are just starting out, I am assuming you are either in school or just got out? If so, ask one of your professors what the market will bear for someone who has some skill but not much seasoning. If you have no formal training, I would recommend getting some, before charging for your services

How can I get a job in the advertising agency

How can I get a job in the advertising agency?
I graduated with a different degree than the career I'm pursuing. I've gone through several interviews with agencies but cannot seem to get a the full-time offer. I've gotten freelancing opportunities but I really want to be a in-house Graphic Designer for an agency because I prefer job security.

so your a telemarketer and SPAM kinda guy? ughh
2 :
You've gotta pay your dues. Start out in an entry-level job and work your way up. Or continue freelancing and let it be known that you want a full time position. I started out as a clerical worker when I wanted to be a copy writer or an ad buyer. In not too much time, I ended up a traffic manager and wrote copy, too.
3 :
THIS is a question I can answer, as it's my field. Get your book (portfolio) together, with at least 4-5 solid campaigns (that are beautifully designed and well thought-out.) Use those freelance gigs to get connections, make friends, start networking, get your face out there and your portfolio in people's hands. Don't stick to traditional print media, do full campaigns with non-traditional placement and interactive capabilities. Your freelance can eventually turn into a real job, either at that agency or another one where you have found a connection. There are also portfolio schools you can attend if you need help.
4 :
Look, no one can make a dancer, a musician or advertising people! They are born that way! Some think you can learn but there are always thinks which are, Lat's say question of talent. You have it or you don't. End of question. You have to take a look in totally different direction and branch. Don't you think?
5 :
Try to find somebody who knows somebody, that can put a good word-in for you
