What Legal Rights Do I have If I'm a Freelance Carpenter

What Legal Rights Do I have If I'm a Freelance Carpenter?
Hello I'm a freelance carpenter, and when I do jobs for people I usually don't get paid, and loose out on a lot of money, what rights do I have so I always get paid? Or is there anyway I can get some legal advice so I can chase down the people who never paid me.

Is freelance carpenter just another way to say you are an unlicensed contractor? You need to find out the requirements to be a licensed business in your city, then you will be able to sue for the money that the customers owe. As long as you are not licensed you will probably be taken advantage of by those who know they can't get away with that if they hire an licensed contractor. Good Luck

Fed up of looking for job

Fed up of looking for job?
Checklist: +Got 2year College diploma. Honours, high GPA, etc. -3rd year cancelled because classmates dropped out. -All employers want skills I'd learn in Year3. So: unqualified. +Borrowed a huge student loan. -They want it back. -Estranged family. They're rich but .. y'know how gasoline and matches don't mix very well? ($0 for College. If we didn't hate eachother, I might've asked for more.) +Wealthy sister offered to help pay for everything. -But I said no. I don't want to be "that guy". I still don't. -Insomnia. -Followed by Insomnia and Insomnia-drugs. +Monster, Workopolis, Careerbuilder. -Scams involving lotion, door-to-door coupon salesman, and 'Craigs-List operator'. -Started applying for ANY job I can find. Yes, even Burger King, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Wendy's, etc. -Nobody will hire me. NOBODY. +Does my best to stay positive. -While this brain tumor drills it's way through my brain. (Seriously, I need to go get this checked out. IDK why I'm waiting.. Aside from my somewhat rational fear of Doctors.) -Paranoid and angry. -And I'm still waiting to get paid $820 for work I did in October. I'm figuratively going to start hunting people down if they keep doing this to me!! -Applied for UEI. IDK if they'll help or not. And then I lay my gripes on YA, somebody says something like "Buck up, you'll find your dream job in no time!" Two and a half months later and I can't find a reliable job. Anywhere. (Aside from the 1 freelance job, because that was 1 time and I need more work.) Of course, stay positive. But really: How? I don't have anyone to talk to. I don't know a single person in this town, and my old friends have no idea what I'm going through. I can't admit to my family that I need help, because they WILL help and then I'll be a mooch. I just feel pathetic and tired. So now I'm just fed up. I have done everything in my power to find work. I'm willing, I'm able, I'm skilled, and I'll work for minimum. What more can I possibly do?

What should I call this job on my resume

What should I call this job on my resume?
I'm editing a User Manual to make it more child-friendly because the company intends on remarketing a certain product to children. I'm referring to this as 'freelance content editor' Any better suggestions?

Since it's a user manual, I'd say "Freelance Technical Editor" or just Technical Editor

I dont have a job. I dont have money. what can I do

I dont have a job. I dont have money. what can I do?
I live in latin america and here the economy is real hard(as you might have heard) and lots of people are left without jobs. I currently dont have a job but have been actively been looking for one. I am broke and dont have $ to pay for my bills. asking someone for money is not an option. what are ways I can get some money without having a job? whats kind of gigs or freelance jobs can I do besides selling Avon products or making homemade soaps or candles?? Cleanaing is definitely not an option as I am a college grad. MomtoAng--I dont particularly care about getting a job specifically in my field. As long as I have a job, but there are certain jobs that I wouldnt even apply for or consider like house cleaning for example, or even waitressing cause here waitresses make about $100 a month! I'm not gonna kill myself working my ass off on a low income degrading job, cause frankly my dear being a waitress in the states its not the same as being one here..

you can always get married to a rich guy
4 :
Start by selling things you no longer need or use. Maybe there is something around the house that would be useful to someone. Also, you can barter. Maybe you can trade services for something you need. Walk a dog or feed an animal. House sit or do cleaning for someone.
5 :
Honestly, if things are that tough I would take any job that is available. It is great that you have graduated from college, but until you get a job in your field you need something that is going to tide you over until you find a job in your field. Being a college graduate doesn't really matter if you don't have a job. The most important thing is that you take any job. After I graduated from college I spent 8 months working two jobs waiting tables until I was able to get a job within my field. I'm glad I did it, my husband and I were able to pay all of our bills and we were able to save some of our money.
6 :
I totally agree with the answer above me. Cleaning houses is degrading but being homeless is more degrading, anything above selling your body should be okay until you find something better. And that doesn't sound like it will be happening. Wish you luck

Who knows any "Work from home" job which isn't scam

Who knows any "Work from home" job which isn't scam?
I just quitted from my job today and nowhere else to go. I've been researching on the Internet about working from home or data entry stuffs but it seems 99.00% of them are scam. Do you know any site or company which is real and DO NOT fall in these following criteria: - Pay for their material first and then have to give people a call to make our living. - Telemarketing with healthy product and etc. - Bidding to get a freelance job. - Paid for survey, blog, and stuffs I want some company who needs a freelance data entry who I could supply a piece of work from home or selling products on the Internet without any inventory, no phone calls, and no buying something from them first (I can invest my time 24/7 and my computer skills). Well I've been struggling for years looking for the real good working from home job whilst wasting of my time and good feeling with the current company I've been working for them. Please help me out with your valued information. Thank you.

Have you tried blogging? I pay out over a thousand a month to bloggers to blog about my company. Most make $5-$10 starting out per post. Once you are credible and get a higher PR website some bloggers make $20+ per post. I use PayperPost. Also listing a legit business opportunity I am involved with below. I am a titanium powerseller on Ebay to give you a little background so you know I am legit and know what I am talking about. There is a new business opportunity that just started a few months ago but has been in the works for over 3 years. It works with Ebay so you know it is legit. Doesn't cost much like a lot of home businesses only $29 per month. You earn up to $35 per new customer and up to 75% in commissions from Ebay just by giving out Free software. When they use the software your Ebay affiliate ID is embedded in the software and you get the commission - 100% of it. Plus 5 more ways to make money. http://www.mymarketinggenie.com/ultimatepaintball I see this as being one of the next big home businesses since it is one of the first that uses Ebay. Most home businesses only last a couple of years but with the backing of Ebay I don't see how anyone wouldn't join this opportunity. I am already doing well, but it helps that I am a titanium powerseller so I let everyone know about the new free software and then I get paid anytime they buy something from Ebay even if it isn't from me. Here is the free software so you can check it out: http://www.myshoppinggenie.com/ultimatepaintball

Is it legal to retract a job offer after an offer letter has been signed

Is it legal to retract a job offer after an offer letter has been signed?
I signed an offer letter for a full-time, salaried job with an incorporated company of about 80 employees. The job was to start three months in the future. I waited two months working small freelance jobs to make ends meet while waiting for my new job to start, when suddenly the company called me in and retracted their offer, citing the poor economy's effect on their budget. They offered no compensation, and I of course was not seeking long term employment for these two months believing I had a job. Is this legal? Do I at least have an argument for unemployment? Help!

Unless your offer guaranteed employment for a set time, it is legal. But, if you have earned enough other money from other jobs over the past 18 months, you should qualify for unemployment. Not until the day you were supposed to start work though as you already knew you wouldn't be working until that day. Chalk this one up to experience and keep looking for another job. My personal philosophy is that until the day I am sitting at my new desk, I really don't have a new job. I keep looking until the day I start, and sometimes even after. A bird in the hand and all that. Good luck
2 :
You signed a contract which legally should entitle you to whatever notice period is stated on that contract as pay in lieu. Read the contract carefully and state in a letter to them that you had turned down full time employment based on the start date that they had given you. As they have now broken their side of the agreement you think you should at least be compensated for the notice period. Take any documentation from this company to the unemployment office you should be able to get JSA.
3 :
It is perfectly legal to withdraw a job offer when the job hadn't started yet. I'm not sure about unemployment, on that, check with your local office. By the way, it never hurts to always keep your eyes open for what's out there. For example, you can put a resume up on Monster or a similar site using just your initials and a phone number and/or email address that your employer doesn't know about. Like this: S.G San Francisco, CA 970.555.1234 SG15222@gmail.com
4 :
Yes it's legal unfortunately, and no you aren't covered for unemployment. Lousy situation and lousy luck, but it happens. And with the economy the way it is, it's happening more frequently. Good luck in finding another, better job

I have full time telecommuting job. Is it legal to get another full time job

I have full time telecommuting job. Is it legal to get another full time job?
For this new job, I need to be in the office. But I think I can handle telecommuting job before/after work or during weekend. (I just need to get things done. When I work is not terribly important for telecommuting job.) Is this Legal? I am reading lots of posts that it is in yahoo answers page, but also saw someone saying it is not legal. I can't find legal documents that states it is legal or illegal. Am I required to tell my employers? They are in different industry and not competitor whatsoever. (no conflict of interest in that matter) I really want to know definite answer. I read people who have done it, but it looks like it is in different shift like 9am-5pm, 6pm-2am. In my case, it can overlap, in somewhat similar like a writer for wallstree journal (I am not writer) writing for another freelance job while he is in the office... Thanks in advance. I don't know how this will turn out, I might quit one job (most likely) in a few months IF I can't handle both Yes, It is legitimate full time position. I get salary and small year end bonus. I have not signed any kind of agreement other than standard employment agreement which didn't say anything about not having another job...

That would depend upon whether or not you signed a contract or agreement with your current employer. If it is a legitimate employment position, (W-4, etc) you may not be allowed to take another position.... You would need to refer to any agreement you signed. If there were no agreements signed, please refer to the rules or Policy of the company you work for. If you are working by commission, you very well may be able to do just that...get another. The company I work for is hiring, and offering new employee referral bonuses to current employees, but we are not allowed to work for another cstrmr. ser. agency while working for them....cloud10corp.com Good Luck, hope this helps with the answer Linda Reynolds
2 :
if you are getting paid for a full time job already and you take on another full time job, it is illegal. you could be charged with theft of your companys time that they paid you for. You may be getting all of your work done but they are paying for your time as well.
3 :
Please go through your contract of employment with the present employer. When you have signed and accepted the terms of an appointment order , it means that You will not engage in any other work or carry out any other business except with the permission of the company. If you choose to work at two places , it is perse illegal and it amounts to gross misconduct
