how might one be able to get a job or internship working with major music video companies/directors

how might one be able to get a job or internship working with major music video companies/directors?
I'm a freelance fashion designer, practically unemployed, just moved to ny and I want to perhaps work as a stylist on video sets or as a production crew member. I feel like I've done a hell of alot of researching and asking questions to those I thought were the right individuals to ask and I'm receiving blank stares and responses. Any informations my fellow yahoo members can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to apply for a credit card in japan if you don't have a job neither some credit(shakkin)

Is it possible to apply for a credit card in japan if you don't have a job neither some credit(shakkin)?
I just left my job out of political reason and now, I need a credit card to start a freelance job. I don't had experience owning one before and also I don't have some credits or anything I need to pay. i also have money at bank, like around 18,000 usd. do you think it is possible for me to own a credit card? I'm living in Tokyo and I'm not Japanese. Thanks in advance.

Usually, you can't have a credit card without a full-time job.
2 :
In my experience, if you are not Japanese, probably not. I remember the case of an Australian woman married to a Japanese man. She had Japanese citizenship, spoke fluent Japanese and worked for a Japanese company. However, Aeon Corporation denied her a credit card..."she was not Japanese enough" was their statement and the Japanese supreme court upheld their reasoning. Therefore, since you are not Japanese and have no job, I would say your chances are slim and none.
3 :
If you're not Japanese, you can't even work there " freelance ". You need a work visa for the job you had in the first place. I'd say you're not even in the country legally, so I guess the credit card isn't a good idea. And if you have $18,000, you don't need a credit card

Is $75/hour a reasonable rate for a freelance photographer to charge

Is $75/hour a reasonable rate for a freelance photographer to charge?
A friend of mine does photography as a side gig. He has about 8 years experience. I'm not sure what type of camera he uses but I've seen his work and he does a pretty decent job. He's charging me $75/hr for engagement photos. What do you think?

he's a friend for sure, $75 and hour is not reasonable it is a gift,...GAWD i wish i could find a photographer for seventy five an hour. but i don't need one i do my own shoots, and don't forsee getting married (my lovely and talented wife would have a fit, i think)
2 :
It depends upon the day rate he has agreed upon with the clients and what usage rights are included in his rate. I charge $350 per day (three to four hours of shooting and three or four hours of post-shoot work. Usage is based upon a standard fee schedule I have and append as the cost of doing business goes up.
3 :
Geez. I'm guessing you're from somewhere with a high cost of living. My brother in law is a photographer, one of the best in the district. He charges $40/hr + travel expenses + film
4 :
Why don't you ask to be charged for the whole day. I think it's way cheaper if its over 4 hours of shooting.
5 :
Your freind is giving you a great break.... Unless he's expecting to take dozens of hours... Most would charge hundreds per hour. Is he slamming you on prints??
6 :
hes half my rate a
7 :
You're getting a good deal. I would charge twice that and for the prints.
8 :
Like the others, he might be cutting you a deal since you are friends. I charge $300 for 3 hours of shooting for events and such

How much taxes will I have to pay if I am a freelance writer (1099 Misc)

How much taxes will I have to pay if I am a freelance writer (1099 Misc)?
I earn $400/month and live in Boston. I've read about making quarterly payments, etc. Also, what percentage (or what amount) will I have to pay at the end of the year? Does it affect my normal job and what I will have to pay for that? This is just some extra income.

If this is *extra* income, plan on at least 30%. You can bump your W-4 at work to withhold extra tax and then skip the quarterly payments.
2 :
You must claim this extra income as Business Income. You must also claim any expenses related to that income. Here is how it is calculated; Total business Income - Business Expenses = Net Business Income This business income will be added to your normal income from wages and other income, such as, interest, dividends, etc. If you have any adjustments, such as student loan interest, or half of the Self Employment Tax, etc., Adjustments will reduce your total income and produce the AGI (Total Income - Adjustments). Adjusted Gross Income. Here is an example; You are Single with no dependents Your wages $30,000 Your Business Income $4,800 ($400 X 12 months) No other income Your Total Income = $30,000 + 4,800 = $34,800 Your AGI = $34,800 - $339 (half of your SE Tax) = $34,461 (assuming you don't have any other adjustments) Your Taxable income = AGI - Standard Deduction - Personal Exemptions Your Taxable Income = $34,461 - $5,700 - $3,650 = $25,111 Your Tax = $3,349 Your Tax credit = $400 Total Tax after credit = $2,949 Self Employment Tax = $678 Your Total Tax Liability = $3,627 <<<---This is how much tax liability you would have if the assumptions above are correct. Let me know if you have any more questions, tax.eezi@gmail.com

You can deduct expenses that were paid to generate your free lance income. If you aren't familiar with what kind of expenses are deductible, a helpful guide for small self employed persons is "Tax Guide 2008" published by Walters Kluwer. It's available at most large book stores or at www.toolkit.com After you know what your net self employed income is, you will owe 15.3% for federal self-employment taxes. Half of that will then be allowed as a deduction that will reduce your total taxable income. On the net income from free lancing, you will owe federal and Mass. taxes based on your highest tax bracket. That might be 10% or 25% or as much as 35% for "Big" brother and another 5% or 10% for "Little" brother (Mass.). Without knowing the amount of your federal taxable income and filing status, no one can give you an accurate number on how much extra taxes you will owe on supplemental income. If you are single and making less than $32,550, your federal tax bracket on additional income would be 25%. This would be in addition to about 13.4% for federal self-employment taxes (after adjusting for the income tax deduction), plus your Mass. tax. Odd's are you would need to set aside close to 45% for taxes if you didn't want to come up short on your tax return. But if you are

What are the pay rates for a freelance web designer

What are the pay rates for a freelance web designer?
I will be starting a freelancing business as a web designer, and I don't know how much to charge for creating an entire website. A friend wants me to create a website for them from scratch. What is the typical price to charge someone to create a website that is about 4-5 pages? Where can I find a pay rates chart for specific web designing tasks such as adding a page to a website or creating templates if a client wants me to do small jobs like that?

As a freelancer web designer, you can make a start at http://ilyesoft.99k.org/scriptlance.com.html , There are a lot of design projects, and you can bid there and know how much to charge when you see how much other bidders charge, that's how I start php programming freelance :) But I think that 1 page design can cost between $10 and $50 , 4pages between $40 and $200 + , but this always depend on the website: how many graphics, buttons, navigation bar ... So you can just start freelance at http://ilyesoft.99k.org/scriptlance.com.html and http://www.getafreelancer.com/affiliates/IlyeSoft/ to learn more about freelancing and make extra cash :)
2 :
You can try to estimate typical rates for graphic design services using one of well known freelance sites or using some special sites collected freelance bids from another sites. For example you can look at it here http://www.getafreelancejob.org/tag/website-design.html

Get on the phone and ask a rival for a 'Ball park' quote for a job, then advertise to do the job for less!
2 :
Do it for free!! community service.
3 :
do it based on the time that you spend, tell them you want some money up front and then count your time and tell them when you are finished. because sometimes people dont end up using the stuff that you make or they dont like it or they just ask someone else to do it so its better to get some money up front (at least $200) then $15.00 an hour or more after that

should i go to college/university to become a freelance journalist

should i go to college/university to become a freelance journalist?
i was just thinking about this because, really, you are not applying for a job when you become a freelance journalist, you just write when you feel like it and send it in for $$.. so really, it doesnt go on a application folder or a resume, so do you need to go to college to be successful? yes i do post on thecitizensjournal quite frequently (even though they never seem to show up on the site, must be under maitenence or something)

If you "just write when you feel like it," you aren't likely to become a successful writer. They really have to work at getting paid for their writing -- submitting numerous writing proposals, developing relationships with editors, and developing an area of expertise that makes them a go-to writer for certain topics. You can certainly try it without a degree and see how far you get.
2 :
As far as writing when you feel like it and just sending it in to get paid... first, you will feel like it all the time, when you need money to eat. Second, it is not as easy as just sending a story in. You should go to college to be a journalist. You should also utilize sites like http://www.thecitizensjournal.com/ to practice, built a portfolio if you will and get your name out there
