Can I get a job as a software developer

Can I get a job as a software developer?
I am attending community college for a AAS degree in computer science. I am looking to start a career as a java develpoer. Can I get hired out of community college. I also plan to freelance some projects before finishing college. What are my chances with AAS degree Jason you live in a bad market. The IT field (developers) is exploding in South FL and that field is expected to grow at a huge rate each year. I have 2 friends pulling 120k and 70k.

This is not the answer you will want to hear, but even with a B.S. it will be tough. It is just too easy for companies to source out that kind of work to India/Russia/China where programmers with advanced degrees make about $6/hr and can live great on it. I have an AAS, 4 months to finish a B.S. and 15 years of IT experience and I'm in my 4th month of unemployment right now and have applied for well over 100 jobs and come up with nothing... I have even been applying for help desk jobs which are typically the lowest paying jobs, but the IT field in the US isn't what it used to be.... The kinds of IT jobs that will stick around are jobs like field service technician, fixing hardware and software on ATM's...stuff like that which can't be shipped away.

It is possible, depending on how good you are at what you do. If you are really smart, you will need a very lucky break to get some experience on your resume. If you don't know what you are doing though, I highly recommend going to school to get your bachelor degree, and learn more. There are enough clueless programmers out there whose code I have to clean and fix cause they keep messing up! :-| Good luck :)

Yes sure you can. I suggest to start step by step. You may consider part time jobs and interships in small business till you have enough experience to work with larger companies. It will depend on you performance in these jobs to reach your goal eventually.

Want to get a job in New York but not sure how to go about it. Any good advice would be appreciated , please no rude or sarcastic responses. Thanks

Try some online jobs, where you donĂ¢€™t have to pay upfront money. Online data entry is an excellent career to consider if you want to work at home. The equipment needed for this type of job is very minimal. You only need a computer with an Internet connection, a table and a comfortable chair. Data entry duties include the inputting of correspondence, reports, and spreadsheets into a home computer and then transmitting that data using the Internet. Work at home data entry personnel may also proofread text, edit information, and maintain databases. Data entry jobs usually offer flexible scheduling, allowing people to work when they want to and as little or as much as they want to. Some of the growing fields for work at home data entry include medical and legal transcription, medical coding and litigation coding. http://workathome-sa.blogspot.com/ This type of work is becoming so popular that many fraudulent websites have emerged offering data entry jobs, which promise huge profits. The best way to find a legitimate data entry job is visit a reputable career website. You are more likely to find a genuine work at home job using these websites. http://internet--jobs.blogspot.com/ There are several freelance websites that post freelance data entry jobs. Avoid responding to ads that do not list a company name or contact information. There are many reputable freelance work forums that can provide you with work at home data entry job listings. The forums are usually free to join and provide trustworthy information. Once you have found an advertisement for a work at home data entry job, check out the company by visiting their website. You can also do an online search using the company name and visit the Better Business Bureau website to see if they have been listed as a fraudulent company.

Interesting question. We all have the basic ability to earn money by using any of a number of skills (Jay Levinson, 555 Ways to Earn Extra Money). He recommends you find ten ways to earn money. He feels it's healthier to get ten checks for $500 per money than one check for $5,000. I know this didn't answer your question. And it wasn't the response you desired. The real secret to earning extra money as a freelancer? The secret: Develop multiple sources of income. The best source of income for me, as a writer, is copywriting. Having the ability to write ads for yourself and others. It's not easy. If you are able to master this skill, you can write your own paycheck. Best of luck to you Robert

I decided not to go back to work after my baby was born. My employer wants a termination letter. Should I

I decided not to go back to work after my baby was born. My employer wants a termination letter. Should I?
I was hoping they would agree to a mutual release, as they have been letting a ton of people go and I assume they'd be just as happy to lose my salary. That way I could collect unemployment until I'm ready to leave the baby and go back to work. They won't do that for me, which is fine - but I have a freelance job set up for the month of October and I'm hoping I may be able to collect after that job ends. If I give my employer a letter will that hurt my chances of being able to collect? I want to leave on good terms, but I don't want to be stupid. I guess I need to be clearer for Erinyes and BoRemmington American (thank you both for taking the time to answer me). I worked. I paid into unemployment. I'm not trying to fraud, I'm trying to find out what I'm entitled to so that I can spend as much time raising my own child, work when I find freelance assignments that allow me to do that and collect in between. I don't want to stay at a job that requires me to be at work from 9 to 7 every day. I have no interest in someone else raising my child. However, I also need to pay bills - which is why I have found a freelance job for a month and as I look for more jobs such as that - I would like to collect my unemployment benefits since I have paid into that system.

State rules vary, but if you resigned your position you could either trigger a time penalty for collecting unemployment, or disqualify yourself entirely. The lack of a resignation letter won't stop your employer from claiming you quit, the letter just makes it ironclad.
2 :
Consult a lawyer. That is the safest way to go. Why are you trying to collect money instead of working? If you need the money then perhaps you should return to work and wait for them to terminate you with the cut backs. Then you can collect freely and legitimately.
3 :
CONGRATULATIONS on your baby ! I mean no disrespect to you, but collecting un-employment and not actively looking for work is fraud and is similar to welfare.I am only basing this on what information you provided. PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION . Why should the taxpayers and your former employer pay for your vacation ?
4 :
Well actually the termination letter, could be to your benefit. If you give notice, which the termination letter does. It will allow you to be rehired at that company at a later date. If you just quit, most companies will not hire you back. Leaving voluntarily, generally means you will not be able to collect unemployment. Although some states, will pay a limited unemployment after a waiting period, if you have a good enough reason for leaving

Does anyone know where a new college graduate can get a good job

Does anyone know where a new college graduate can get a good job?
I just graduated from the University of California, San Diego and am in need of a job. I double majored in Psychology and History, and I also have a minor in Communication. I really want to be a writer, so I'm writing some things now, but I know freelancing isn't really going to rake in the big bucks needed to pay the bills. So, I'm looking for a stable, well-paying job that would hire a recent graduate. If anyone can give me advice, that would be great. Thanks!

A little under $1,400 in self-employment taxes, plus whatever income tax is due based upon your total income. You're taxed on the net income from the self-employment so any business expenses that you can document will reduce the tax bite.
2 :
Around 14.1% for self employment tax for social security and medicare, plus income tax - the income tax % will depend on your total income and tax situation

I am an ACE certified Personal Fitness Trainer, but I can't get a job because I don't have experience. Ideas?

Bro go to the gym and sell yourself to some out of shape girls you know convince them that you can help or for that matter some babes ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
2 :
Try and get a couple people to hire you free-lance to get some experience. Friends, relatives, friends and relatives co-workers. You may end up finding you like working more on your own. But either way you will get experience. You can market yourself effectively as a personal trainer by being upbeat and personable to everyone you come in contact with. Networking will be the key to getting clients.
3 :
Do some freelance work. Post ads, go on craigslist, etc. Do some volunteer - maybe call a local rec center and offer to teach 1 free fitness class a week for a month or two - you'll get great references, experience, and community service is always good for business. Call it "Summer ShapeUp" "Hot for the Holidays" or something. Talk to local businesses about offering classes to their students for free or a low rate. I work with a modeling agency, and we're always looking for people to come in and train our models on make, hair, fitness, etc.
4 :
Start advertising your services and offer them at a lower rate than those who are experienced. This will help you get people in the door to gain experience and get you closer to building a business. Some cheap ways to advertise -- Craigslist, word of mouth (tell your clients to refer friends and give them both a discount), flyers in sporting stores or other places that focus on appearance (tanning salons, hair salons, spas, etc.) and as hand outs on the street, signage on your vehicle, or small display ads in smaller market publications (think suburban newspapers versus the main metro publication
