Is it possible to get legitimate freelance writing jobs with respectable wages

Is it possible to get legitimate freelance writing jobs with respectable wages?
Hi Guys, I have been freelance writing for a couple of years now. I have a B.A. in writing and literature, as well as a writing internship under my belt. I've written for SEO companies doing copywriting, but I'm always a ghostwriter and I never get paid more than .02 cents per word. I just want to know if this is normal? Is it possible to find paying jobs that I will make more money on? I'm not greedy or looking to get rich, I just want to be able to pay my bills. Ghostwriting isn't a big deal on principle, except that I have no verifiable samples to send to potential employers, so it looks like I have no experience. Do any experienced writers have advice? What's the lowest pay per word I should be accepting? Where can I find copywriting jobs that will pay a little bit more? Thanks!

Hello, You have lots of experience and great qualifications! I would suggest you offer your services on freelance sites as there are lots of website owners who look for ghost writers. With your skills and experience you will be able to get project easily. There are also internet marketing (such as digitalpoint for example)forums but the prices there are a bit lower, but still you can try.

It's very difficult to get paid what you deserve working as a freelancer. Even if you're charging a respectable hourly wage, you just don't spend enough time working because you're always looking for more clients, projects, and jobs. Plus all the administrative overhead takes a bite out of your paycheck. Here's one web developer's experience working freelance: http://jobbullet.com/blog/2009/08/the-freelancers-trap/ Makes you think twice before leaving your day job.

I don't know how many words per article you are writing at .02 but I go to associated content and if i write an original article I can get between 5 and 8 dollars each. It would take quite a bit to make a living but it's a great part time income. Hope that helps. Good Luck

Looking for freelance medical billing and coding jobs

Looking for freelance medical billing and coding jobs?
I am looking for a website (or other info) offering freelance medical billing and coding jobs (not to be directed to a website that redirects me or helps me try to find a site - I am looking for an actual site). Also, a site with training and software would helpful (but secondary). Thanks.

What does it mean to be "Kept on a retainer" in terms of emplyment

What does it mean to be "Kept on a retainer" in terms of emplyment?
I did a freelance job for a client....I wrote the content on one of his websites and he has paid me and been great to work with. He said today that if I were interested he would like to "Keep me on a retainer" to do some updates on his other sites...and so pay me monthly. What exactly is a retainer? If I seem ignorant...well I am...I write well but have had no formal training and so some terms are a mystery to me.

Should I list this job on a resume

Should I list this job on a resume?
Alright so I am making a resume (im 18 still in HS) and I have not had a real job before, everything freelance. I have plowed snow for a company before and got paid. I did it 25 straight hours, do I list stuff like this? Or should I just list my laboring and gardening I did for a few years around the neighborhood? Please help Thank you

Yes, I think snow plowing certainly should belong on your resume, especially considering how much experience you have. Since you got paid by a company, it definitely qualifies as a job and I think it could characterize you as a hard-worker since snow-plowing is not easy work. Don't be afraid to put any work-related or even self-characteristics on your resume. As you get older, your resume will be more prestigious of course but you're only 18 yrs old so don't worry

I have quited my previous job to do freelancing and online trading at the same time

I have quited my previous job to do freelancing and online trading at the same time.?
After 2 years, both didn't work out for me and I am eager to return to my workforce. However, I am fearful of potential employers asking me if it was irresponsible for me to do that, i.e. I could have done all these while still working. I don't wish to include trading on my resume as employers are likely to treat it as gambling and that will fare well for me. If I don't explain well, the 2 years may seem like a significant career gap. What should I do? Would be it advisable to say that I left my previous job to pursue personal interests (which is true) - freelance design as well as development of a trading system? Would that be too lame or sound too irresponsible?

You "quited" your previous job? Hmm... Maybe you should go back to school.
2 :
That would be "I quit my previous..." It does tend to be true that employers are looking for continuous job experience.
3 :
I would recommend saying you were pursuing personal interests and things such as that. A resume is there so you can sugar coat anything thats not quite "up to par". To be honest, most people have things that sound pretty lame but decide to dress them up a little bit, and this leads them to getting the job over someone else. You are selling "YOU" to your employer, so now its time to show them your worth it. EVEN IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR NOT. There is no room for pessimism here. Good luck!
4 :
No, it does not sound too irresponsible. It sounds adventurous. It sounds experimental. Tell them the truth. Don't say you left your previous job or you quit your previous job. Say after working on that previous job you wanted to explore potential opportunities on the Internet

I am a freelance translator and want to go to a language trade fair to find new customers

I am a freelance translator and want to go to a language trade fair to find new customers?
There will be exhibitors from translation agencies (who often outsource jobs), embassies, other companies, language schools etc. and a lot of visitors from the field, too. What's the best way to contact exhibitors or other visitors so I can get new jobs? Should I just talk to them and give them my printed CV and my business card? Advice would be great.

If you want to do freelance translation, go to the freelance job sites where people post short term translation jobs. I have hired many translators through those sites for various projects. If you have never used a freelance site, then there is a course that explains how they work and how to get jobs on them, I will link in the resource box. People always need a transltor for short jobs like converting a single webpage to another language, rewriting instructions or a short manual in another language etc and they post those jobs on these freelance sites. Good luck
