Why do I keep going to job interviews

Why do I keep going to job interviews?
I'm 26, and I started doing freelance accouting jobs a year ago after I got fired quit from a low-paying job at a company. I started sending out resumes, and kept getting interviews, but they kept offering very little money. I started increasing my fees and earnings month after month on my freelance work. After six months, my earnings increased dramatically, I even set up my own office at an office building. After I got my own business, I began getting even more job interviews. NOW they are offering the money I always wanted to make. But now I'm making more money on my own. For the last 6 months, I've been going to interviews, but they just don't offer me more money than I'm making on my own. My earnings keep increasing continously every month, I don't have a boss to answer to. Yet I keep going to these interviews for jobs where I'll have a boss, and where I be set with the same salary every month. Why do I keep going then?

Well, it's hard to answer that question...only you know why you keep going. However, I can think of reasons to keep going. If it's not taking too much of your time, it certainly can't hurt. You never know what might happen with your personal business, or when a company might make you an offer you can't refuse. Even if you never accept another job offer, the interviews are a networking opportunity. You never know who you might meet or what connections you might make that could be helpful to you in the future. It's always good to know a lot of people in your industry.

Your customers are the boss. If you are fine with your situation, then that is probably more important to you than just the money. If your work is in more demand than you can handle then you can hire someone and give a good salary to your employee(s).
3 :
as long as your doing good on your own then i would just stop going to interviews it sounds to me like they would be a waist of time for you
4 :
Maybe there is a just a little bit of insecurity in your ability to keep up to your own standards, and you might just want to be a follower instead of a leader I know I would.(Less Responsibility

My nieces (twins) are looking to find cartoonists freelance work? They are 20 y/o. Any ideas on where to fo?
They are excellent artists in the cartoon field. Have had a few published in magazines, etc. Any ideas on where they can go to find some paying jobs? They are still in college and looking for parttime work.

I would say find an internship position at major cartoon company, for the purpose of networking. chances of getting job there is fairly good when u have an internship . talk to the newspapers as well or talk to chamber of commerce. just a few ideas.
4 :
Do they have any original characters or strips of their own? You might try contacting magazines, newsletter publishers, and even Web sites directly with a proposal. A 6-month or 12-month deal could be negotiated if you already have a good number of chapters done. Small organizations may be more open to direct communication from artists whereas larger publishers use mainly syndicated material

Tax deductions for onsite freelance graphic design

Tax deductions for onsite freelance graphic design?
I have a large chunk of freelance income for 2008, earned from 3 different agencies, all onsite at their offices. (They sent 1099's). On Schedule C... Can I expense anything at all for ONSITE freelance jobs? None of the work was done from home. Only things I can come up with are possibly meals (for myself) and transportation, but I can't tell if I'm eligible to deduct those... All the jobs were in the same metro area as I live and I took public transportation to all of them. Thanks, and help!

I do not think that you can expense anything for these. Unless your business is based in your home, travel costs to the agencies will be regarded as commuting costs and hence are not deductible. As for meals, since you have to eat anyway, these will not be deductible either.
2 :
Dear chi: Meals don't cut it, transportation is N/G. As a free lance designer you may deduct any professional license, subscription to work related journals, any specific tools, uniform if required, a log to keep track of clients, gifts to clients (with restrictions), possibly meals with clients, entrainment for clients etc. Read the Sch C instructions to see if any thing pops out at you. As a designer do you attend any conferences, conventions, any continuing education that applies to your job?? This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax law in effect at the time it was written and it applies to the facts that you provided. Click on my profile to read more. You are not eligible to deduct the meals. Meal and food deductions are allowed only for business meetings and for travel outside the metro area. You are not allowed to deduct transportation from home to a work site or from a work site to home. Those expenses are commuting, which you are not allowed to deduct. If you used public transportation to travel from one work site to another work site (without going home in between), then you can deduct the bus or train fare

Freelance writing for teenagers

Freelance writing for teenagers?
I can't seem to find a job online for someone younger than 18! Let me correct my question then: Opportunities to earn money by writing online? Being a teen. & I absolutley loathe anything that has the phrase: Let's be realistic. There's no impossible in my mind, and I take pride on that.

No one is going to hire you with no qualifications or just GCSE grades. It's good to hope but let's be realistic!
2 :
Err, of course nobody will hire a freelance writer who's still school age. I sometimes to have to take on freelancers as part of my job, and we naturally look for people with qualifications and experience. However good you are at writing for your age, there will be things about specific types of writing that you won't know simply because you don't have any experience or a portfolio of work and haven't had any experience in a professional copywriting / journalistic environment. Freelance writers are almost invariably people who have had salaried writing jobs *first*. You don't just go straight into freelancing from nothing.
3 :
I agree with the others. I'm 18 now and when I was a little younger I also looked for this type of work but couldn't find any due to my lack of qualifications - I had been published and won competitions etc, but no-one would hire me without experience. I think it's fair enough as I wouldn't have had any idea how to write the kinds of things they wanted me to - I can write short stories just fine, but in hindsight I wouldn't have coped writing things such as articles and copy. The best thing you can do is look for work experience. I did some work experience at a local paper.
4 :
You have so totally got to check out sites like Fiverr.com or Uphype.com. At Fiverr, you're stuck with doing jobs for five bucks apiece but with Uphype, you can choose $8, $16, or $24 a job. Of course, you'll need a Paypal account to get your money but it's a good way to build up a portfolio for a long-term writing career

How does one get into freelancing

How does one get into freelancing?
I know that freelancing means working at your own pace and doing what you do, but who or how do you find the people or ways to do it? How do you get into freelancing if you have been looking for work for a long time, but you don't have any significant experience that you can freelance with. For instance, i have been sorta thinking about graphic design and freelancing or using some other retail job to freelance with, but i don't know where to go. I logged on to a site called Sologig.com and they are supposed to be good at finding jobs for people. My only trouble is i haven't really had the experience (or don't know where to go) to start freelancing. When they ask for Title Information, does it mean what is the title i'm looking for or the title i already have? Does freelancing pay? Is it non-guaranteed pay? How do you become a freelance graphic designer and does it pay?

There are a lot of freelance graphic designers. It doesn't start paying well until you get a lot of work rolling in from a client who trusts your work. The hard part is building that relationship. Your title is whatever you want it to be. For graphics I would choose Design Professional or Lead Designer or Design Consultant. It sounds like you need experience; get a formal job and do freelance on the side until you can support yourself enough to work at your own pace.
2 :
i believe to freelance in specific fields you need a certificate stating you are certified for that type of job. that's probably the title they are asking about. eg. carpenter, roofer, contractor. if you have these in play, then the way you get out there is through networking. you talk to people you know, or just put yourself out there if you are really serious. eg. contractor: you see go out, you see people working on buildings, inquire of job poss or who their management is to inquire. Go to businesses that contract private persons for small jobs. for graphic desins, get the education for it and persue the same methods. Unless you knoe someone in the business that can give you that break

13 and would like to become a freelance writer

13 and would like to become a freelance writer?
It's now holidays, yes, in my country and I'm really thinking of getting something to do. I'm very interested in writing articles and so on but is it okay to submit any articles to any magazines? PS: I also wanna earn $$$ :D I want to know if it's legal and any recommendations on magazines to get my stuff published. It would be better if they had a topic so I know what to write. Or is there any other jobs similar? I live in Malaysia.

Freelance Interiors- how do I pay myself

Freelance Interiors- how do I pay myself?
I work full-time as an interior designer (NOT decorator, thank you-check wikipedia if you are confused) at an architecture firm. I have picked up a few freelance jobs along the way and plan to gradually ease into all freelance work so that I can start my own business. I have a checking account that I plan to use solely for the 'business'. So, once I get my paycheck, how do I pay myself? I do not have a regular income with my moonlighting, so working out a regular payroll for myself does not make sense. Have any of you done this ease into entrepeneurship, and how did you handle taking your 'pay'?
Small Business - 1 Answers

1 :
Basically, you write a check to yourself from your business account and deposit it to your personal account. You could treat the payroll to yourself as a commission based on revenue dollars (either on total sales or net income) or as an hourly wage based on hours actually worked, instead of salary paid on a weekly or monthly basis. When you do your federal income taxes, you can report the income on Schedule C or C-EZ (unless you organize as a corporation). Just remember to file your quarterlies to avoid underpayment penalties and interest
