Should I include my three years at Cistercian and Benedictine monastery in my CV

Should I include my three years at Cistercian and Benedictine monastery in my CV?
At present I am covering the time with freelance jobs I did during the time and before. Still, the time looks a bit 'thin' on the CV, and with employers who do security scans (I am in finance) there is the awkward moment of having to 'confess'. People who advised me to hide the time from my CV said that it may be understood as hinting at a fickle character while others said it might be 'fascinating'. Doesanybody also know a better forum to ask this question?

I have always found that your CV needs to be as accurate as possible. It will be far more troubling to explain the absence of this time than to discuss with a potential employer your motives for going to monasteries. Leaving it out suggests that you are trying to hide something. Not a good trait, especially in finance.
2 :
You'll probably get as many opinions on this as you get answers. My advice is not to hide the time but to use the reference to build your character as solid, reliable, pious, honest, etc...the virtues associated with monks. Do this for the same reason you add charitable, non-profit work on your CV. It gives you more experience to draw from and you can turn any of it to advantage in an interview. Most employers also require you to complete their own "application" in addition to submitting your CV or resume. They specifically require you to account for all your time and to explain "gaps" such as periods of unemployment, etc. Your time in the monastery will need to be mentioned there, so do it on the CV and save yourself the trouble of having to invent an explanation on the fly.
3 :
Yes, of course. There is nothing wrong with staying in a monastery. In fact, it could be a plus for you. Just have good reasons why your monastery stay was good for your self-development, etc. Peace and blessings!
4 :
Absolutely! A CV is only good for one thing and that is to get a job interview. Whenever I am going over CV's and candidates for a position I am looking for people who stand out, and this is just the type of experience which may lead to your next job. While some employers may not respect your time at the monastery, these are probably employers that you wouldn't feel comfortable work for as an employee. I work in the finance field and the best thing I ever put on my CV was the eight months I spent working in the Alaskan fishing fleet. It has proven memorable and a great talking point, just what you want on your CV. Good Luck

One of my best mate has a degree in illustration. He has recently finished his masters. He needs a job.?
We all really believe in his work. I'd ideally like to help him start his own business up or just freelance. I've managed to get him some work doing some artist impressions pictures for a new developement my company is doing. Whats the best way of looking to start marketting etc.

Any starting point, when you have all the finacila angles setup, would be advertising, product. Explaining in plain words what it is that you are selling thorough your advertisments. If it is only the Painting, of scketching type of a thing, then holding exhbitions in key places, even if you get a small corner. It be seen. Painting is not someing to be sold as word of mouth, it has to be seen and experienced as Art is the tradition of expression. Some may like it some may not. Good presentation (frames, light, colors of the walls etc.) is the only way people will look at it with interest. Art today is pretty much one of the good ways of investing money. Freelance is a good starting point, if you can.
2 :
You succeed in the arts, on any level, by networking. That means, you pursue every venue as aggressively (but nicely) as possible. If your friend has an MFA he should definitely go for a teaching job. He should have samples to submit to publishers, but he should also exhibit. If he doesn't have a gallery now, (any gallery) he should trek around to libraries and anywhere that shows local artists with some pieces made for display. If he's into science fiction or comics he should do pieces he can rent space at conventions to show (most of the conventions I've been to had art shows and most of the pros in either field I've known used the art shows as much as they did submitting samples to publishers. Turning up your nose at any opportunity to get your work out is really a case of lost money. There is an old man I knew briefly in the seventies whose New York Gallery is pushing his work very aggressively -- and while he's a wildlife artist the bulk of his income always came from illustration. But obviously, he's also shown his work.

Tell him to send resume or copy of school transcripts and desired salary, and examples of his work to: U2rArt-owner@yahoogroups.com

If you want work from home without running your own business, you’re opening yourself up to be a victim of online scams – especially data entry scams. Getting your own clients is the best way to get transcription and data entry work from home. You can run a home business part time. Another way to get general transcription work from home is by working for transcription companies. It’s a good way to get started in transcription from home without starting your own business. You’ll get paid less but will have more flexibility and be able to work around your school schedule. If you can pass the transcription test, you may get work when available. Am I legally owed a staff job

Am I legally owed a staff job?
I've been working at the same place as a freelance worker for over a year now. I work 40 or more hours a week and I don't ever take vacation unless I have to because the building is closed. A co-worker recently told me that this is illegal on the part of my employer and I am supposed to be given a staff position. Is this correct?

It depends on what your job is. Go to the irs.gov website and look at the information on employees vs. independent contractors. If you still can't figure out which one you are supposed to be, then the IRS will do it for you if you request it.
2 :
if you are NOT working thru a temp agency and the company themselves has been paying you directly as a contract employee for a year, then it's possible they could be exceeding some kind of length of employment rules - might vary by state - talk to them. The longest I ever worked at one job assignment as a temp was about 11 months, but that was thru an agency and the client then hired me - been there 6 yrs now as a perm employee
3 :
This only applies in the United States. There are no laws where any employer has to make a freelance worker a permanent staff member after any amount of time. The only illegality would be is in the event you are being treated as a staff member with set hours and rules and they would then be in violation of the Federal Labor Standards Act.
4 :
Uh, you aren't owed a job. Depending on your job duties and conditions, though, it might or might not be legal for them to define you as a freelancer, they might have to classify you as an employee if they keep you at all, but they don't have to keep you.
5 :
ask that co-worker where they got their information, if they know of someone who advanced like that and if so go talk with that person. Sometimes co-workers like to start trouble and what they told you may not be accurate, or not accurate in tough economic times like right now. Why not ask your supervisor what the rules are

how can i get AutoCAD freelance jobe to do at home

how can i get AutoCAD freelance jobe to do at home ?

What kind of civil? Roads, site grading, etc??? If you are a PE, do some cold calling of construction firms. Many states require utility placement permits be signed by a PE and you can make a fair $ laying out and signing off on those - you typically need to do field measurements, though. Good drafters are hard to find, call some civil firms and see if they need anyone to take up some freelance work

I was thinking to do some home jobs. Like polls or surveys or freelancing. I am not that kind of specialist in computer and can't do any higher level work. What easier job you can suggest me?

Hey Sandi, Well good for you for wanting to get some extra income. There are lot's of ways to make money online, from e-bay to affiliate marketing to online surveys. I used to do surveys but found it boring but there is money to be made. hope this helps

Doing some online jobs are the best ways to earn some money from home. Your concept is good. You can earn money from surveys or freelancing. But as you do not have a good knowledge in computer and don't need to do any higher level job, then you should try to learn something first before try to do freelancing jobs. Right now, the easiest job for you is doing some surveys. There are a lot of paid survey sites. You can choose any one from there. Or you can also choose any one from this site, these survey sites are also good and well known. http://www.bestonlinepayingsurveys.com
