how does one go about becoming a freelance writer on the web

how does one go about becoming a freelance writer on the web? ?
I have pretty good writing skills and I need an additional source of income, but I dont have the time to get yet another job. People have told me that you can write on the web and make a decent amount, but I dont know where to start. Also, my specialty is in the sciences, so if anyone knows about science writing, that would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Borshu, You can either start writing yourself by starting your own blog about some topic you like. You can look for free blogging websites or create a blog of your own by using wordpress. You would as well need a hosting and domain for your own blog. You can probably get hold of a good one at http://www.sonnexh.com. Next, you can monetize these using Adsense or by placing advertisements from advertisers. But this will be a long process to get money. If you do not want to earn money son, you can look for writing jobs on offer and write for webmasters. You can find good writing jobs at http://www.freelance-projects.info/ Specifically for you, look fro categories like CopyWriting, Translation, Writing. http://www.freelance-projects.info/category/copywriting/ http://www.freelance-projects.info/category/translation/ http://www.freelance-projects.info/category/writing/ Best of Luck

planning on moving to montreal.. but may be lacking job experience

planning on moving to montreal.. but may be lacking job experience?
I am considering moving to Montreal in the next year or so.. my problem is that most of my job experience doesn't qualify me for the job classifications Quebec is looking for regarding immigrants. I've worked retail jobs and have been doing freelance art (on the side) for about 6 years. I know I can make a living there, but my major obstacle is that I don't seem to fit into their job catagories anywhere. If anyone has any knowledge on this I'd greatly appreciate it! I know it's a bit of a complex issue.

check out Randstad.ca , they will help you find the right job for you
2 :
You will need to learn French because most jobs require it especially retail jobs.
3 :
I agree with Martin. It'll be really hard for you to find a retail job if you don't speak French. All the jobs I've seen posted up on job sites require bilinguilism. Although if you're lucky you can find some that require primarily English, but I usually find that once in a blue moon. You said you've done some freelance art right? I'm guessing that's graphic design related. If so, then here's what my brother's friend posted up recently: A) FULL TIME GRAPHIC & WEB DESIGNER WANTED (TO START END OF MAY) Maximus Telecom / Ivorcom.com / von1.com and more... Maintain and update many websites related to Telecommunication, Software, Hardware, News, Law websites. Requirements: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, HTML, PHP, MYSQL Workplace: Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC Please send online Portfolio to freshmoss@gmail.com with header FULL-TIME GRAPHIC DESIGNER B) PART-TIME JUNIOR GRAPHIC & WEB DESIGNER for upcoming projects. Must have creative talent and can work under limited deadlines. Requirements: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash HTML, PHP, MYSQL language Workplace: Remotely Please send online Portfolio to freshmoss@gmail.com with header PART-TIME GRAPHIC DESIGNER I hope that helps & try your best to learn some French if you come here, all the signs here are in French so it'll be easier on you if you do. Best of luck

When running any type of business, it is important to factor in all of your costs into your pricing. Once you have your costs figured out, you move into how much you want to profit. Some things your cost goes into paying: -Legal Fees -Business Insurance -Supplies/Materials -Office Expenses -Accounting Fees -Software/Hardware -Etc Most small business or self-employed people fail because they don't take the time to do a cost-analysis. It will require a huge investment of time beyond reading this post as well! Charging per hour: Allows more flexibility, but clients tend to ask you why it took you X amount of time. Charging per project: Have to stick to the standard procedures, clients may feel you did too many unnecessary things. Try heading to the www.sba.gov for more small business owner tips! p.s. Make sure you create an LLC or something to protect yourself legally!
2 :
There is no standard. It's like would you pay for Prada shoes or Payless shoes while they are both shoes. I would go for job instead of charging per hour. Look at the complexity of the web site and figure out how long it takes you to complete, suggest a price. Usually a site needs 2-3 months to complete, but mostly likely this won't be your only job during that period. If the site does not require a lot of flash or java script or adding merchant account, I think $1500-$2000 is fair enough. If the site is real simple and it only takes 1 week to finish; like a personal information web site, $500 is reasonable. Again, it'll all your call, if you think you're the genius, ask for higher. Good luck!

hi i am also a freelance web and graphic designer. so far the projects that i am accepting are business card, brochure, invitation, tarpaulin....since i don't have machine to print i ask quotation to those company printer who have cheap prices then i just add 40% to be my income. gets? i am the one who design but im not the one who print it. if they only requiring you for a design, give them charge...are in the philippines? for example in logo, chrage him/her 300 to 1000 depending on the person who needs it. if they are only students, then give them cheap prices but if they are an organization or company charge them the amount which is worth in your effort. in web design, for static website means no "programming" i only charge 8,000 to 15,000 depending on the page no. of website. and 20,0000 to 60,000 on dynamic depending on the requirements of the clients. as a freelance, it depends on you on how you can rate your deigns and projcts. the important is the effort you give is worth on the prices they give

It is more of a cotton industry business. Create a web page, do some seminars, post ads at colleges and so on. You have to find people who want you to write their resume.
2 :
Given the kind of service you want to provide and advertise, it would help if you start spelling correctly. If you are looking for a steadier income stream, market your skills to schools. Go to technical schools, colleges etc in your area and offer free resume writing seminar. If you are good with your presentation, you might get some clients. Create a professional web site; advertise and cross link to related sites. Post your profile on online professional networks and freelance professional sites, i.e. LinkedIn or Guru.com Attend local professional association chapters meetings. Many people who go to these meetings are networking for career advancement, so they could be your potential clients. Obtain professional resume writing accreditation to increase your credibility and broaden your own professional network. Best wishes.

If you want to make money online and wanted to work from home, go for freelancing jobs. They are only one, that will pay you and its free to become a freelancer. The Internet has opened up many freelance opportunities, expanding markets and helping to build it into one of the largest economic segments for many economies. You dont need to pay to get the job. Development for freelancing has been especially high for software development, website design, information technology, and business documentation. Freelance practice varies greatly. Some require clients to sign written contracts<!--while others may perform work based on verbal agreements, perhaps enforceable through the very nature of the work. Some freelancers may provide written estimates of work and request deposits from clients. Get more information on the website. You can almost find any freelance job you want. http://freelancejobs.awardspace.com/ Payment for freelance work also varies greatly. Freelancers may charge by the day or hour, or on a per-project basis. Instead of a flat rate or fee, some consultants have adopted a value-based pricing method-->based on the perceived value of the results to the client. By custom, payment arrangements may be upfront, percentage upfront, or upon completion. For more complex projects, a contract may set a payment schedule based on milestones or outcomes

It is not just in your city it is almost everywhere.
2 :
Ditto-it's hard everywhere...especially in bigger cities, you're going to have more competition. You go out a bit more rural, and the pay sucks or there's not as many opportunities. Just can't win...Good luck finding something!
3 :
You have to realize, especially in a big city, that bachelor degrees are a dime a dozen. They're the equivalent to a high school degree 50 years ago. If you want a job with just a bachelors degree, you have to either lower your expectations (meaning, don't expect a job that's all that high paying), or pick a specific major that has demand (versus most liberal arts degrees
