Could help suggest the correct visa to get for living in France for a year?
I'm trying to go to France for a year. I do not have a job in France. Rather, I have several freelance jobs in the US. This allows me the freedom to work remotely as all of my work is done over the phone and email. I am not quite sure what the correct visa is to get. Also, when showing bank statements during the application process, what is a good amount of money to show that you have in there? I don't have much.

You need a long stay visa (visa de long séjour) Here is the form you must fill out : http://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/IMG/pdf/Formulaire_visa_long_sejour.pdf While there is no fixed amount of money you must have to be approved, if you can provide evidence that you will have at least 2000 euros per month to spend you're probably okay. You can prove this with: 1.Formal letter of reference from the bank showing account numbers and balances 2. Recent bank/brokerage/retirement account statements 3. Proof of income from employer or clients (that's probably what you'll need to do).

You would need to apply for a long stay visa for non professional purpose You have to apply with all the required documents in original and one copy for US citizen, four copies for other nationalities. The visa section does not make any copies. • Passport valid for a minimum period of six months from the date of visa application (+ 4 copies of the identification page). • Two long stay application forms signed and clearly filled out (only one application form for US citizen). Please print in black. • Translation in English of the long stay visa application form. • 2 photographs (more informations about the photograph) . All photos must be recent, identical, passport size - 1,4" x 1,7" (3,5cm x 4,5cm) and showing face front the forehead hairline and ears on a white background, the face must take up 70-80% of the photograph. • A proof of residency status in the US ( e.g. , visa, I-94, IAP66, I-20, resident card ). • Financial guarantee such as : - Letter from your bank stating that you have sufficient means of support to live in France; - Justification of retirement pensions; - A notarized declaration of your sponsor stating that he/she will be responsible for all your expenses and a proof of his/her assets. • A note, dated and signed by the applicant, stating that he/she does not intend to have in France a paid professional activity which requires a work permit. • Proof of medical insurance with full coverage valid in France. Letter from the insurance compagny only • A non criminal record certificate to be obtained at the police’s office of the city of residence. • Deed of your house/appartment in France. • Processing fees: ($125) payment by cash, credit card (Visa, Mastercard) or money-order made out to "Consulate general of France" or certified checks. No personal checks At present $100.00 per day of stay are suggested as financial requirement for a tourist visa application.
