In my experience, its not going to be easy. You have to get out there, and sell yourself. Unless you have a portfolio, dont expect much work, as anyone who might hire you, will want to see what you can do. Go to businesses, companies, etc., and have a talk with someone if they need any design work. Ask friends, neighbors, family, etc. if they know anyone who needs design work. Good Luck, its tough to get started as a freelancer.

You could try working from home. If you are interested in a home based job, check this site out http://www.pcworkathome.net
3 :
You have some freelance sites on http://workfromhome-at.com/freelance.html and they all have work for design, I think

Railcar Inspection Jobs - Can Railcar Inspectors Work on a Freelance Positions?

Yes they can, but I think you have to take a course on a certain part of it.
2 :
Surely you'd be driectly employed by the railroad company. The work is safety related and a third party organization (contractor) could not be relied on to adhere to important safety regulations
3 :
Yes, they can. In fact, railcar inspection is one of the few areas where qualified people are hired on a temporary or freelance basis. To be hired, you need prior experience with motors, control systems, rail/track/wheel components and signal operations. There are jobs for inspectors both in the US and UK. Popular states for employment include New York, California and Texas

What can I do for a job

What can I do for a job?
Help! I need to make some money and I don't really have any experience to get hired for anything - believe me I've tried everything! What can I do? Are there any work at home jobs or telecommuting jobs that I can try that don't require money upfront for a "decision package" and all that junk? Freelance stuff? Any ideas would be welcome, thanks!

I found a job at a local TV station. There was no experience required and they trained me. I work in the production area of the news. It's fun. Good luck!

You could always stand by the freeway off ramp with a sign up saying "poor, please give money for food!" People give them money all the time. Either that or I'd say hit yahoo jobs or monster.com, they can help you boost up your resume or at least help you make a starter one to get a job. Another option would be Collections, if you have a pulse and/or breathing, you can be a debt collector.

What's the right thing to say? JOB INTERVIEW

What's the right thing to say? JOB INTERVIEW?
Hello there, I'm getting ready for a job interview tomorrow. How will I answer if the interviewer ask about my salary expectation and how much do you think I should really expect? I'm from Philippines, applying for Graphics Specialist in an International and well-established Company. I also have a 3 yrs. experience in this field (freelance). Thank You.

Research the pay wage in that state for that job and then put your expectation in the middle of that average amount that you found.
2 :
You said you have 3 years experience in this type of work. If when he ask you the question about your salary, I would then tell him what I was getting paid on my last job and say with a nice smile,( anything over this I would consider an added bonus) what do you have to lose.
3 :
Have you done any research regarding the average salary of somebody with that position? At the interview, the subject of exact salaries won't come up...that will happen AFTER they talk to you and examine your resume' and match you with a position. They'll either call you or send you an offer letter. I have no idea what the position pays...it could pay 60K or 80K or what....you can always ask high and negotiate from there. Or they can offer LOW and you can negotiate. If you know that similar jobs pay, say $80K for experienced people (somebody with 10 yrs or more) then ask for $70K IF they ask you. They have to give you some idea of what the position pays with their company so you can negotiate a fair salary. Other then that, ask about benefits (heatlh, retirement, travel, tuition reimbursement, etc) and be eager and attentive.
4 :
It is good to know that most interviewers typically ask the same questions, beginning with, "So, tell me a little about yourself," and ending with "Are there any questions that you have about the company?" The nice thing is, you can practice your reponses in advance, givng you the oppertunity to talk about transferrable skills. AVOID giving too much information about personal things, like family or politics, or religious affiliation. DEFINATELY reserch the company in advance, so you are prepared with smart, pertinant questions. Your employer will want to know that you're on the ball, and not just looking for any position, but a position with THEM. Here is a link with a pretty good list of typical interview questions: http://www.careercc.com/interv3.shtml#may%20be%20asked Best of luck

As a freelancer would you learn Flash and Flex

As a freelancer would you learn Flash and Flex?
Or just keep with the basics htlm/xhtml/css/php? I mean will learning Flash CS4 andFlex 3 give you more freelance jobs or can you just rest and be busy enough with htlm/xhtml/css/php/msql?

Many websites don't have flash implementations. You don't need to work with flash if you really don't want to, but it's a good idea to learn it. If you were to hire someone to build a website for you, would you hire the person with or without flash experience? A lot of people who hire others to build a website for them aren't really into technicalities, so although flash may be annoying and slow for most of their users, they won't think of that and they'll focus more on how good flash makes their website look. For me, I don't like most flash websites, but for someone who hires web designers, they'll probably be looking for flash made websites. It all depends really.

Network and sell yourself. Have professional business cards made up and talk to friends, family and associates so they can spread the word. You might consider donating some time/work to a non-profit organization to have some references and examples of your work to share with potential clients.
2 :
You could search and apply for jobs based on your qualifications and experience on job websites like Hotjobs,Monster, Careerbuilder and Craigslist. You could also search for jobs on websites like Simply Hired and Indeed. You can find more information at http://www.pcworkathome.net/jobwebsites.html

how much to charge for logo design

how much to charge for logo design?
i'm a recent graduate from the field of graphic design. i've just got my first freelance job to design a company logo to feature on beauty products. how much should i charge?

Hey, I've been in your same situation... It depends a lot on your skill, and the process you will go through to design the logo. If you are following professional procedure and coming up with logo comps, then developing a few, and having them pick and finalize one you can charge more than if you just draw up a logo, make it vector and send it over. If you're good and going to go all out making a strong, brand-able logo for their company you can charge as much as $500 or more. Since you are fresh to the field you may want to charge $350-400. If this is a quick job and they don't care much for branding or following procedure, you're probably looking at anything between $80-200 depending on how much you value your own work. Never listen to the "This will be good for your resume, so do it for us cheap!" line. Some good reading for freelance information is freelanceswitch.com (and no, I am not associated with them). It's in my RSS reader and I've found it to be a very valuable resource when trying to figure out what to charge or how to handle different types of clients. Good luck! Never undervalue your work.

The above answer gives good advice on pricing. Something else I might add is....to the best of your ability...try to avoid designing using PMS colors. Being in the printing industry I get alot of stuff in which looks real pretty, and they use PMS colors. All this does is increase the printing cost to your client every time they have to print letterhead, business cards etc. It can nearly double the cost simply because to the exact PMS color ink has to be used. This means the press has to be completely cleaned first....and printers don't do all this pain in the butt work for free haha. sometimes you may get a custoimer that wansts a particular unique color....advise them against it...no one else on the planet will ever know what exact color they use. CYMK can produce a very near shade of any PMS color. It just isnt worth the cost. good luck and good fortune

Freelance jobs

Freelance jobs?
http://www.reuters.com/article/reutersEdge/idUSN2832352020080529 What do you think about this? 1. if you get your work done, go home. no need to sit around till 5 p.m. just because those are the working hours 2. do work outside of the office if you could to shorten your time at the office 3. come into the office whenever you want (no such thing as lateness) as long as you get your projects completed on time productivity will increase (as evidenced by the article) and employees will be happier and have more free time. Any thoughts?

I think in a perfect world that's a great scenario, however, you're gonna have those who will screw it up for all of us hard-workers. People will really take advantage of it. I don't see it flying really. A few ruin things for many. ~~Lisa

Well, When you are being paid to work somewhere. You're on the owners clock not you're own. He/she is paying for you're time and that's how it is. Its simple employee/employer contract. The boss pays for you're time and he wants it. Simple
