You're right on target as freelance writing is considered as one of the hottest trends in the freelancing world. All you have to do is sign up in many legit freelance sites on the web - which are mostly free. Do you have samples of work already? Try blogging or submitting to many free ezines on the web to showcase your work to prospective clients. Salary can range from US $5 to $40 an hour, depending on your skills, location, and how you sell your skills. Don't ever put your rates down and know what you're worth. It can be tough so I'd say build your portfolio as early as now. You can also try social media channels to spread the word about you. Good Luck!

Freelance Writing/Journalism Jobs

Freelance Writing/Journalism Jobs... ?
What are some freelance writing/journalism type jobs that would allow me to travel all over the country and stay each place for short to long periods of times, take photographs of the places I visit, blog or write about it, basically like travel writing? I want to see the entire world when I'm out of college, and want to have a career that involves journalism and traveling. I want to see the whole world! Suggestions?

photojournalist- go around the world and take pictures National Geographic photographer Journalism jobs don't pay that much though. But if it makes you happy, then go for it!
2 :
OK, everyone asks this question, and I really feel I have to say something. So many people think that journalism is an easy business that people can get into and just write about pieces and take pictures, but it's so much more than that. If you do not go to school for journalism, it's a hard business to get into because most editors and publishers won't believe you have the ability to do it. That's not saying you don't, but to prove that you do, you have to work, very, very, very hard. (Sorry for the repetition. We'll go for the Edgar Allen Poe effect.) Thus said, if freelance is something you really want to pursue, you have to work on it. You can see what the Travel Channel is doing as far as video bloggers, but having a career as a journalist doesn't mean you get to go to foreign places, take pictures and write. It means you have to be able to cover all sorts of journalism. I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but I think many people think of the journalism world as something easier than it is - which alters their view on the subject. It's a fast-paced, interesting field, but to be a part of it, while having your niche, you have to know every little part - not just travel.
3 :
Your chances of landing such a job are practically zero. Most media outlets aren't willing to pay someone to travel all the time. It's easier and cheaper to simply pay someone at the desired location, and have him or her work as a freelancer. Now -- once you are established, there's a chance you could do some freelance work. But you'd have to pay your own expenses on such trips, and hope to make enough to make it back. Everyone would like one of the jobs you just described, but they aren't really out there in any number

How can I find work doing acrobatic stunts?
I'm trying to find some work doing acrobatic stunts such as backflips and wallflips and what not, but it's not something you usually find in the classifieds. How does this happen to a teen

How does this happen to a teen?
I have a friend he is my age and he got a job at freelance multimedia. He does photography, graphic design and web design. He dropped out of HS. Is it this easy??

hell no. your friend was very lucky. most ppl who drop out of hs end up @ mcdonalds! stay in school!!!!!
2 :
Nope! Especially in today's job market! He probably knew someone who knew someone who got him the job. Most professional agencies are looking for people who are highly trained in their field.
3 :
Pretty easy to drop out of high school, but your friend got lucky. Really lucky. Without at least a high school education, 99% of the time you're screwed with a job. Seeing how it's hard enough to get a job now. Not to mention the regret many years later... Oh, and your parents would probably kill you. Just a guess

how about secret consumer? it's where you go around to different shops and you rate their products. you probably wanted a real writing job, call the local newspaper then.
2 :
Look in the newspaper.
3 :
write an article and submit it to the editors of teen magazines. If they like it, they will buy it. If they don't like it, ask for feedback. Then repeat.
4 :
my suggestion is get anything you can to have income, but find an internship at a local newspaper or just start taking your own pics and writing segments to go with them. then submit them to news papers and magazines...free!... keep a folder of anything that get's published... it will eventually become your portfolio... needed when you start applying for positions... good luck!
5 :
Put your resume out on the net. Use craigslist Put the word out to all your friends, family, neighbors, etc. Word of mouth is the best way to find a job in my opinion. Watch the classifieds both online and in the newspapers

If given a choice, will you freelance

If given a choice, will you freelance?
There are many people who have given up their usual 9-5 jobs and chosen to freelance so they can be their own boss at their own time. Given a choice, will you freelance or will you stay in the safety net of being an employee?

There is so much paperwork involved in freelancing, that most do not succeed. The best avenue to take would be to hire a CPA to assist in the paperwork - but most that freelance think they can do it themselves. There is also keeping current with the payment of the various taxes. These are the reasons that most do not succeed at freelancing.
2 :
I think the freelance sector is so crowded it's difficult to make a decent living doing it. The best bet perhaps is to build a network of contacts in regular employment before attempting it

Tax Question for my freelance, please help

Tax Question for my freelance, please help?
Hi, I am doing some graphic design freelance and I am making about $3000 a month from it. I would like to buy a new computer and maybe lease a car with that money, can I use it as my deductable? I have a full-time job too so how does it work? Do I fill W-2 or 1099? will someone give me some advice? Thanks so much
United States - 1 Answers

The business portions of those expenditures is deductible. Any personal use is not, including the commute to your other job. You need to keep accurate records of all of your business income and expenses. You'll figure the business profit on Schedule C or C-EZ. You'll file Schedule SE to figure the Self-Employment tax on the business profit. That's at 15.3% of 92.35% of the net profit from the business. You may or may not receive Forms 1099 from your clients but you MUST claim all income received. With that much self-employment income it's almost a certainty that you will not have enough tax withheld from the full time job to cover your total tax liability. You'll need to make quarterly estimated payments to the IRS using Form 1040-ES. How much you need to pay in will depend upon your other income and the withholdings there but it could be as high as 50% of the self-employment income though 35% is probably closer to correct for most taxpayers. The worksheets that accompany the 1040-ES package will help you determine the correct amounts to pay. If you don't make the estimated payments you may be facing penalties and interest for underpayment of estimated taxes when you file your tax returns. Don't forget state income taxes as well. All states with an income tax also require estimated tax payments

What can I do to jump start my freelance photography

What can I do to jump start my freelance photography?
I've had a couple of jobs and I love it but it has came to a complete stop all of a sudden. Noone wants their picture taken? What can I do? http://www.flickr.com/photos/kandalope/

1 :
What are you doing to promote yourself? You might be well advised to develop a site other than flickr, because it doesn't present very professionally. The photos on your flickr are all nice but many of them look like 'snaps' that are more personal in nature, when for professional work you want to highlight the best of the best. What sort of freelance do you want to pursue?
2 :
Please don't take this too hard, if the images at that Flickr account are any indication of what your professional photographs look like then I am not surprised you have not received any more business. You probably should not consider going Pro at this time. Start producing outstanding imagery and then promote yourself. At this point, you have put the cart before the ox.
3 :
Taking a few snaps of your friend for her senior pictures, on a Nikon D40 in full auto mode, is not what I consider a "job"... As Mere already pointed out, they are not to even a moderate standard, let alone a standard high enough to consider marketing yourself and start charging customers who are not family members or friends. I'm not even going to go into detail here because I am so tired of repeating myself to teenagers who have just bought an entry level DSLR and think they can now 'go pro'.. Here is the short answer.. You are not ready by years, they are not good quality images, you need to understand exposure, composition, lighting, and own much better equipment. .
4 :
I left a comment on one of your images. I am in full agreement with Fish and Mere Mortal. A few random poorly done snaps of a friend is not a job. It's being a teenager and goofing off. I admire your effort but you really need to spend much more time developing your skills and shooting off of auto mode. You cannot take gigs or consider doing freelance photography when you shoot auto and have odd composition in many shots.
5 :
Can't really add to what Mere Mortal, Fishmeister & KK have said. Your photos are not 'pro' quality. Take some more time to learn to use your camera in manual and consider lighting & exposure more. Are these Flickr photos the ones you took on your 'jobs'? - if so I hope you didn't charge for them.
6 :
I'm younger than you and I shoot for an online music publication and an international agency. Being a freelancer is damn hard work, these publications / agencies don't come knocking, you have to go to THEM. Its as simple as, you have to work your ass off to get anywhere. I'd say educate yourself first on equipment / lighting / settings ect first and then go out and take photos and the more photos you take, the more you will improve Oh and I still have a Flickr lol, getting a nice website soon though....
7 :
TBH if you are trying to pursue a photography career than you should not be linking to the images you have. They scream beginner and if I was looking for a photographer I would not give you a second glance after seeing those. If you are trying to market yourself then Flickr is not the place to do it and posting snapshots of your family and friends will not help. Either do your own website or sign up to a decent "pro" site to host your work and put your best work on there - based on whatever type of photography you are pitching for. Without saying what sort of work you are trying to do then that is all the assistance you can get here.
8 :
To be honest I agree with everyone else. You need to practise and learn as much as you can. Then you need to learn about business/marketing/advertising. Then get a website Then start advertising.
9 :
OH... MY .... LORD.... Why should ANYONE pay YOU to take crappy snapshots that they can do just as badly themselves? (The people on this site never cease to amaze me). steve
10 :
I notice that your avatar is a picture of someone taking a picture with what looks like a camera phone. I hope this is not how you are doing photography. If it is, then that may be the reason why your dreams of being a photographer are going nowhere (that is not a good camera to use). If I am mistaken, and you are using a real camera, then disregard what I wrote above. Most people don't like having their picture taken. This includes family, friends, and strangers on the street. It is what it is. If you want to become a REAL freelance photographer then you need to take it more seriously and start learning about photography (read books, take classes, etc.). Taking snapshots does not make you a professional (or even an amateur) photographer. You need to become good at what you do (anyone can just snap pictures - if that was all that was required, then we would all be famous freelance photographers)

I found a website for you:: http://www.fabjob.com/makeupartist.asp
2 :
You would need to do a certificate/ Diploma course at the local tech college. There are different levels of certification. Depends what you want to do (makeup, waxing, tanning, beauty treatments etc). Freelance just means you don't work at a particular salon as such. You work for yourself and would be called up independently to go do makeup jobs, like for weddings and stuff. You would have your own business number etc

The ASJA is one. It's nonfiction writing--articles and such, and you only get to be a member after you've published articles of a certain caliber, but you can still get their newsletter sent to you electronically. They also hold a really great writers' conference in New York City every year. I go every couple of years but can't afford it every year. Check out Writers Digest's website--they list conferences all over the country. There's also Poets and Writers magazine, which also lists things and is a pretty good source of information. You can find most writers' magazines, which have tons of information and sources, in the big chain bookstores. Lastly--The Writers Market is worth the $30 price. You can also subscribe to it online. It lists publications to submit your writing to, with details about who buys what, and it has pages of tips and information as well. There are Novel and Short Stories Market and Poets Market versions, as well

Freelance experience in resume is okay

Freelance experience in resume is okay?
Am currently working as a freelance graphic and web designer, but looking for a full-time job now. Freelancing was started on 2007 Jan. I have sent across my resume to many openings, but haven't got a single reply. Does showing freelance experience pose any problem in my resume, am still wondering why am not getting any calls/replies. Or how should i show the freelance works in my resume? Yes! I have included web portfolio and clients websites which i have done, in my resume. Skills have been mentioned in resume, as to what tools i use.
Other - Careers & Employment - 2 Answers

1 :
Did you include your web portfolio on your resume? Since you are a graphic and web designer, it's obvious that employers need samples of your work. Include URLs of your website(s) and clients' websites. Your website should showcase your design skills. It should impress them and give them a reason to call you for a personal interview. Good luck!
2 :
work experience you place in a resume should be relevant to the job you are applying for. If your freelance work has nothing to do with the job you have applied for, then it may be better to remove it and only place work experience relevant to the position. you should also tailor each resume for each job you are applying for. yes creating a general resume to distribute to jobs is fine, but you'll better your chances if you make sure each resume appeals to each job you are applying for. All work experience is valued, even volunteer work as long as it is relevant to the job you are applying for. make sure your resumes provide an image of yourself that makes HR people think that they need you. And one more thing, the job of a resume and application is not to get you the job, but to get you and interview. the interview gets you the job, so make sure your resume isn't trying to get you the job, but appeals to the HR person that will interview you

How do I tell someone that "it's not my job" without sounding lazy or rude

How do I tell someone that "it's not my job" without sounding lazy or rude?
I am a freelance graphic/web designer. I am paid a flat fee to design and send the company's HTML enewsletter to their customers and wholesalers. At the onset of this deal, I was told by the company's owner that I would be supplied text and images by their PR person (or sometimes their marketing assistant), and then I would do my part. At first, I received everything that I was supposed to. The next newsletter, I had to hunt down some images. The one after that, they tried to add a few additional sections, which I had to negotiate more money for. This newsletter, the text is missing for a couple of sections. all that I received for it was the heading and a note to call so-and-so for text and images. How do I tell this PR person that I am not being paid to do this without sounding lazy or rude? I am hesitant to get the company's owner involved-I don't want to sound inept or unprofessional. Any ideas on how to handle this PR person?
Other - Business & Finance - 16 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Say it exactly as you just did. It's not in the original scope of the job and to either do it right the way the first time or you'll be having a chat with the person who hired you to redefine both your responsibilities and your pay scale. All they've got to do is their job. If they can't hack it, I think the owner has a right to know it.
2 :
Send a polite request to provide you with information they agreed to provide you. Mention as a additional service and fee you will take of the missing material for them. Your selling services not just a service. I think you will them to appreciate your professionalism in providing them a complete service.
3 :
I would just send them a note saying you noticed a couple of things that are in complete and tell them that you will need to have the completed information by such and such a date in order to include it. If they do not send it, you don't include it.
4 :
Next time ask the PR person for a "purchase order" to cover the extra time needed to contact and obtain the additional information. Odds are he will need approval which will bring it to other people's attention. Either it will stop or you will get paid for the additional time.
5 :
Just tell the PR person that it's just too much work for one person. It sounds like you're a hard-working person and I'm sure they see that (otherwise they wouldn't be taking advantage of you like this) but you're only ONE person. It doesn't even have to be more money, maybe even a decrease in workload, or the hiring of another employee to help out on the project. Try pitching those ideas to your PR person or whoever is above you and the thought of ineptness and unprofessionalism won't even come to their minds.
6 :
As a professional it is important that you let whomever you made the contract with that you are unable to do your side because you are not getting what is needed. It need not be adversarial, just a simple statement of fact. Along with the request, you can mention that you might be willing to expand your role provided that compensation can be arranged. It sounds like you already did this to some extent when they expanded content. Once you start doing other peoples work, people will assume that that is part of what you are being paid to do unless you make it clear that you are only doing it temporarily as a stop gap.
7 :
You can always tell them that this is not in your job description. Or follow your chain of command and tell them the problems you are having. Let them know that the person(s) responsible for the other parts of the job are not doing what they are supposed to and that makes you do twice the work without the pay. I Hate when that happens, because when you do all the work, you don't get all the credit.
8 :
Don't do it my email first of all. This is always a bad way to work out a problem. If they are in your area, having a lunch or face to face meeting and talking to them about the issue is best. In the business world, breaking bread with someone is the best choice to work out problems. Or if this isn't possible, call them when you are in a good state of mind:), and talk to them, tell them you are a team player, but to do your job and help them also, you need to have them help the team with the information you need to be professional. Then send them a thank you card. You get more with sugar than vinergar. God Bless.
9 :
The way you say it is very important. The way I do something like that is to talk to the pr guy in a very friendly way. People find it hard to act bossy when you do that. But at the same time what you say has to be firm. You can also say that you would do the extra work for an additional price, and make it reasonable. The best way you can act is to be honest with them, while letting them know that you are not going to back down.
10 :
Try calling this person and saying something to the effect of "I know you must be terribly busy, but I can't get the work done on the page if I'm trying to find the information that you were supposed to have ready for me. I'd really appreciate it if we could stick to the original job description in which I am the designer/sender and you do the info collecting. That would include gathering it all yourself and then giving it to me, rather than telling me to call someone else and get the info. That isn't my job, it's yours. You get paid to do that, and I get paid to design the webpage. Let's keep it at that." Hope this helps a little.
11 :
Say " I would love to do this work for you but I don't know if you want me to look for the text for the newsletter and you are going to pay me more money to do it or.... one of your employees forgot to finish their job...? I'm just concerned what's going on I wanted to get things clear before I finish your job"
12 :
Don't concern yourself with whether or not you're being lazy or rude. Obviously your coworker isn't concerned with being lazy or rude by giving you his/her work to do. Sometimes coworkers will test a new employee's boundaries to see how far they can go. But more than likely that's not the case since you don't know what your coworker's duties are. It is a possibility that the employee before you handled those tasks and your coworker is just maintaining the status quo. Or it could be a lack of clarity in the job description between your coworker and the company owner. It would be helpful in a situation like that to be able to refer to some sort of performance plan which details your duties. Treat your coworker as you would like to be treated and give him/her the benefit of the doubt. Simply inform your coworker of your understanding of your list of duties, and determine if a discrepancy exists. If you learn from that conversation that there appears to be some disagreement, then schedule a meeting with the company owner and your coworker to clear up those differences. You might be surprised to find out that your coworker was not aware of what was expected from him/her.
13 :
So ti sounds like you are a contractor for this company and not an actual employee (on payroll) for this company. If you have a contract of your work agreement (contract) of your responsibilities then I would suggest that you bring it to the attention of the PR person and let them know nicely and professionally and if they would still like you to do the work explain to them that you will need to contact the "hire up's" with an amendment to the contract and addiing more money before you do anything else. Lots of luck
14 :
I just hate it when people do what you have described. Don't let it be a problem for you, they obviously don't care if it is. Write the PR person and tell them that you would love to be able to be flexible with your deadlines and work-flow, but that you have to maintain the agreement that you have with them, in order to be fair to all your clients. Restate the basics of your agreement specifically regarding the part that states the information will be provided to you. Next month, send out a reminder notice one week before the deadline stating that you need your text and images no late than XX-XX-XX. I would bet that this issue is irritating to you, but not even a passing thought to them. They shouldn't get worked up about it, as long as you are polite.
15 :
well I would go 2 the PR person and tell them that your just curious why your not getting paid and they will probaly understand
16 :
Never tell them its not your job. Thats a good way to lose a client. Tell them that you realize that they are really busy and if they cant supply the assets that they agreed to, you'd be happy to help, BUT IT WILL ADD TO THE COST. Use text in your proposal or estimates that say something like: Cost is based on client supplying all assets necessary to complete project including logos, FINAL text, images, etc.) assets not supplied will be billed separately. Rates for searching for stock photography, clip art etc is $XX per hour.

this online jobs are all scams. try this it really works, your going to be making lots of money read this you won't regret doin it • Get rich PLEASE NOTE: please follow these directions exactly and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions. You will now become a part of the mail order business. In this business, your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You are in the business of developing a mailing list. Many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality list. However, the money made from the mailing list is secondary to the income, which is made from people like you and me asking to be included to that list. Here are the four steps to success: STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper write the following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 6 us 1dollar bills and place ONE inside EACH of the six pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope to prevent thievery. Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. MAKE SURE THERE ARE ENOUGH STAMPS ON YOUR ENVELOPES. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase your name and address and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most of us, I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So, I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal!!!!! Mail the six envelopes to the following addresses. #1) M.W. Williams 52887 Mary Martin Dr. Chesterfield MI 48051 #2) Aaron Dorsey 839 Balls Bluff Road Leesburg, VA 20176 #3)William Henderson 15635 F.M. 2728, Terrell, TX 75161 #4) Francheska Freeman 119 Redbud Drive, Forney, TX 75126 #5) Sampson Jordan 2435 smoky rd, huntingtown, MD 20639 #6)Jordan Powell 6441 meadowlark dr, dunkirk md 20754 Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, 4 becomes 3, and add YOUR name as number 6 on the list. STEP 3: Change anything you need to but try to keep this article as original as possible. Now post your amended article to at least 200 news groups. ( I think there are 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post , the more money you make!** EVERYBODY AROUND THE WORLD CAN DO THIS BUT REMEMBER TO PUT ENOUGH STAMPS ON YOUR ENVELOPES!!!!** This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to title 18 sec. 1302 & 1341 of the postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for your self and whenever you need money, you can use it again and again. PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way, if you are of integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way. NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, on either a computer or a hard copy and keep the notes people sent you. This verifies that you are truly providing a service. (Remember to wrap the $1 bill in the note to prevent mail theft.) So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a list developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 spot you will be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!!!! What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1 for each of the six people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the list and you're in business! DIRECTIONS: HOW TO POST TO NEWS GROUPS STEP 1: You do not need to retype this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your cursor to the bottom of this document, and select "copy" from the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer's memory. STEP 2: Open a blank notepad file and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the edit menu, select "paste." This will paste the copy of the letter into notepad so you can add your name to the list. STEP 3: Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your postings in different settings , you'll always have this file to come back to. STEP 4: Use Netscape and Internet Explorer and try searching for various news groups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.) STEP 5: Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting "paste" from the edit menu. Fill in the subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button. You're done with the first one! CONGRATULATIONS,…THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different news groups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN (MESSAGE BOARDS ETC.) THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200. That's it! You will begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may eventually want to rent a P.O. Box due to the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use as long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE THE ADDRESS IS CORRECT** Let me break it down, say I receive only 5 replies, so then I made $5 with my name at #5 on the letter. Now each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1 made the MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #4 and only 5 people respond to the original 5 people. That is another $25 for me. Now those 25 people make the MINIMUM 200 post with my name at number 3 and only 5 replies each, I will make $125. Now, those 125 people post the MINIMUM 200 postings with my name at #2 and only get 5 replies each, I will make an additional $626! Ok, now here's the fun part each of those 625 people post a MINIMUM 200 with my name at #1, I will receive $15,625!!! With an original investment of $6!!!! AMAZING!!!! . When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest postings in the news groups and send out another $6 to names on the list putting yourself at #6 and start posting again. Thousands of people are joining the internet each day and they are reading articles like these just as you are right now. So this can never be played out just keep it going and you can make tons of money too!!!! Please try it now and make big bucks in a few short weeks!!!!!!

These are real, but there is a lot of competition for jobs. I got started using online freelance sites, and ultimately built a business with clients that I found through them. http://www.scriptlance.com (Free - Best in my opinion) http://www.gofreelance.com (free - good site) http://online-jobs-success.blogspot.com/ http://genuinedataentry.blogspot.com/ http://www.elance.com (Biggest, but kind of expensive) The first link is mainly programming, but there are other jobs there as well. You may have more luck with the second

Does anyone know how to get a job as a makeup artist at a strip club

Does anyone know how to get a job as a makeup artist at a strip club?
Im 20 yrs old. I already have a complete kit and im pretty good. I am interested in freelancing and ppl have told me that dancers are a good place to start. what do u think? I Would apply to mac or other makeup counters but there is a great lose in jobs in my area and in the economy period so until I finish cosmetology school this is my best chance.

I think that if you're struggling and need a job that you should go ahead. Makeup is a great art, and you are probably so great at it, but lowering your standards too doing makeup on strippers doesn't seem like a great idea. Go to a Sephora, or Mac or even the drugstore and become a makeup consultant! Or even start making YouTube makeup videos. I do, and it was a great place to start!
2 :
i say go for it! but be ready for what you are going to see, its not pretty.. lots of drugs and behind the scenes type things. i did this for a short while.. making 35 a head, then of course you have to pay the head mom. also if u do hair i would makeup to 45 for one face! not bad if u ask me!! get there early and out, so you wont see so much happening in the back....
3 :
i think that if your friends are telling you to start doing make-up at a strip club instead of at a clinique counter inside macy's then they are just trying to spare your feelings and hope you get the hint.... they probably actually think your make-up skills aren't the best.... there is actually a saying about when you wear too much make-up or are bad at doing your own .... it's 'WOW you look like a hooker' and as far as i've seen strippers do their make-up the same way. if you are serious about this dream go to school for it no amount of experience in a strip club could even compare to getting a degree. whatever you choose good luck and try to take yourself more seriously.
4 :
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh heck no. What are you thinking? You could r8ped, strip clubs are where ho-ish girls and dirty men hang out. When your walking out the door at night time some dirty man runs past and picks you up and throws you into his van. That's is a BAD JOB. You are supporting prostitution. Very bad, don't do it....

Good freelance web design sites

Good freelance web design sites?
I have been doing freelance web and graphic design for the past three years aside from my full time job. Most of my jobs have been found through word of mouth, businesses go to the college and, when I attended there, I was notified when a business needed a website and I would complete the task. Now I have graduated, have my Graphic Design degree and Web design and authoring certificate, and my goal is to move into freelance work full time. I have an online portfolio website. How can I achieve this? What are good websites where businesses can go to post jobs for freelance designers? How else can I get my name out there?

Usually there are places for designers or artists online where they can place their details work portfolios websites etc so businesses can look up people etc most of these are free but you kind of have to look for them. Where i live they have one called www.thebigidea.com. The other thing you could do is contract out to other Web Design Businesses as they are usually looking for Freelance Designers to take on-board for certain projects. The best thing you could do is go to businesses within your area and basically ask them if they need a website or would like to have their current website redesigned or need any Graphic work done. Printing places are usually good for Graphic work. Make up a portfolio that has hard copies of your work in both Graphic and Web Design. Try not to give people URL's as they more than likely wont bother looking unless your their with them, most would like to see it on paper and thats usually the best way to do it. Pick only your very best works and ones you enjoyed working on. That way when you talk about them the enthusiasm from working on it will come through. Have business cards done up, do up a few brochures so if you do get approached they have something to look at which may give them some incentive to look at your website. Not everybody likes to troll the mass listings of designers. Theres A LOT of foot-work that has to be done and most of it will come from you doing it all yourself. But YOU have to be the one that goes to people not them come to you. You need them more than they need you so you have to be committed to what you want to do otherwise it can get very disheartening. Look up other Freelance Designers and ask how they got started. You have to start somewhere its just a case of where. I hope this has helped

I listed a few sites here. The last link is review on freelance sites.

Try Craigslist. About once a year, or so, I can find a reputable gig that pays something more than slave wages. Watch out for scams and those that want quality work, but are not willing to pay for it. Otherwise, you have to go out and hustle up your own clients. You need to convince them that they need your services, even though they don't yet know it. Nearly 40% of my freelance work is, literally, SALES, 10% to 20% bookkeeping and the little time left, devoted to creating paid work. And much of THAT is mind numbing grunt work

I don't suggest using those freelance sites...but everyone is different. I found most of those sites to take your money and not return enough. Best thing you can do is market yourself online through your own website. Its worked great for me so far!

Here is one that has helped myself and other freelance artists be able to make enough money to go full time as a freelance graphic artist and get rid of the 9 to 5

Does anyone know any online freelancing jobs that are available for someone who writes poetry?

Sorry my man. If you find out let me know to!
2 :
Sure. Every state and some large cities have a poet-laureate. Including the national dude (or dudette) there are about 75 to 100 such jobs. There are about 300,000 people world-wide who are qualified for the work, and 30,000 actively seeking the titles. 3,000 of those will be considered. 300 of those will have the political clout and resume to pull it off. Half of those will find work. They all have three degrees in the arts and some of them have crossover parchment in science. So, if you've already earned your Ph.D., then proceed. If not, then you better stay in school for at least another decade. RB

idk!

The best solution is to look at the skills that you. The difficulty is in identifying what are legitimate work at home jobs and what is a fair and reasonable return for your time. In starting to look at this issue it is important to realize that there are many others that have gone down this path and you can take advantage from their experience here :http://www.wahm.com/forum/. You can also take advantage of some research that I have done at http://www.freelance-work-guide.com/index.html. This will of course relate to your skills as a writer. I would appreciate any comments that you leave. Regards Jack Taggerty http://www.freelance-work-guide.com/index.html

Should I take the job

Should I take the job?
I was laid off months ago because my then employer lost several clients. I loved the job but it required a lot of hours and was a bit stressful. I now have a temporary/freelance maybe permanent job. I don't know if they'll offer me a full-time (w/benefits) job. I'm a bit bored by this job, but there's little stress. Now my previous employer wants to hire me back. What should I do? And if I do accept it, what kinds of negotiations should I discuss? So, should I take the job?

Stress level, hours, pay, seniority (against layoff)....
2 :
I'm a once-bitten-twice-shy kind of gal. You let me go, I'm not coming back. You say your old job was great but it was stressful. Would it be worth it to you to go back, even though that means you are "most recently hired" and likely first in line for lay-offs? How often did lay-offs occur at the company and how often do lay-offs occur in your line of work? It's not fun to be in a boring job. Is there something you can change at your current job to make it more interesting? Just as an example, since I don't know what you do: there was a group of women help desk employees who were constantly getting complaint calls (that is their job, after all) and a lot of them were getting worn pretty thin. Until one day, when they were all complaining and telling all the horrible calls they had, one lady said, "Hey, why don't we see who gets the worst caller of the day and then we vote on those as worst call of the week?" It worked. Morale shot up through the roof. The ladies were excited to get irate customers, the more irate the better! They ended up having a much more positive outlook on their job and they actually got to know one another very well and became friends (and they lived happily ever after). Anyhow, it worked for them, and I was wondering if there is something you can do about the boredom. In the end, you will do what is best for you, and I hope you can make a decision soon that you are happy with. Good luck

I'm a freelance artist. A client who had me design something for him now wants to have the copyright

I'm a freelance artist. A client who had me design something for him now wants to have the copyright?
The client had an idea that I brought to life and is now claiming he should have the copyright to it based on that. I disagree. I brought this his idea to life. We had no contract stating that I was going to sign over any copyright to him. He hired me for this one job and that's what I did. Why should he have the Copyright to the work? This was never discussed in the beginning of the project.
Other - Arts & Humanities - 14 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
well firstly that should have been in writing from the start, but you created it, its yours, not unless he had a patenet or otherwise published it (ie wrote it down before u)
2 :
Assuming it is not a photo of your client, you have the copyright IF that is IF you applied for and received a copyright. Did you post copyright notice on your work? If not you do not have a copyright on that work. I recommend you see a copyright lawyer as soon as you can.
3 :
No way! You desinged it, you cant hand over your work by giving him the copyright to that design. If you do that, you loose all possible profit off the desing in the future. Now, if they offer a generous amount of money for it, and BUY it form you, that's a different story...
4 :
intellectual property is a funny thing. his idea can be copyrighted, but so can your art. the two are not the same thing. as I understand it, he gave you the right to use his copyrighted idea as an outlet for your art, so he's waived his copyright protection. this may be an incorrect interpretation though. in the end, if it means that much to you, then you gotta hire a lawyer and get the courts to rule. the law will most likely fall on your side than his though.
5 :
Contact an attorney right away!
6 :
destroy it and tell him to design it himself next time
7 :
It was a mistake to not have a contract in writing. That always causes problems. I think the copyright should be shared if possible, because it was collaborative, although you, as the artist, are responsible for the "coming to the life" of his idea. Next time, discuss copyright issues before!
8 :
Works of art are like a child to the artist, that is completely understandable. But if you designed something for a client, isn't it specific to his taste? Is it something that you would use again, or was this a personalized project? If it is something you would be willing to part with, let go and let him buy the rights. Even though you created it, you created it FOR him. If he is willing to pay you for full rights, make that additional money and let it go. If you have an issue with this, tell him he can have limited rights and you require royalties on future use or publication. If you cannot work it out amongst yourselves, find a good lawyer. In the future, work out copyright guidelines beforehand, it will save you a lot of trouble. Good Luck!
9 :
In my view art is more of idea than execution. Art is something which has to do more with mind and lesser with body. The commonly known artists i.e. painter, singer, instrumentalist etc, are, in my view, skilled people-may or may not be artists, whereas, a music director is an artist. So if the idea was of your client's he must be given the copyright and even patent if he wishes to. A building is an architect's creation neither of draftsmen's nor of masons'. This idea is personal and has got nothing to do with the law.
10 :
Patents can be tricky. Copyright exists to defend others from making a profit off of your idea. Is it the idea or the invention itself that he wishes to copyright (from your description it sounds like it is the invention). I think he has good claim for the protecting the idea (unless it was altered significantly by your input), while his claim on the product itself is lessened. I would consult a lawyer that specializes in patents and/or contract work to see if you have right to claim patent on the design and/or work. If you have a right to patent it, talk with the client and see how it goes from there. Perhaps you can co-patent it.
11 :
The contract should have stated SOMETHING about this. Either: You maintain copyright and license the client to do x,y, and z. OR The client buys the copyright (and allows you to use the art for your portfolio.) OR Copyright doesn't apply - he hired you as a skilled laborer. If there's any ambiguity, this will end up on a lawyer's desk.
12 :
If he paid you for the work, then its his. If he hasn't paid you, then its still yours.
13 :
If there was no contract drawn up at the beginning of the agreement then the artwork is yours. You cannot copyright an idea or concept which is what your client came up with. You brought that idea to life. You made the idea a tangible thing and that is what the copyright.gov website states makes an item copyrightable. It would be illegal for him to try to copyright your work. You have every grounds to sue at that point. If he wanted the rights to it, an agreement should have been drawn up in the beginning. Try the site below for more information.
14 :
Is this a graphic design or a product design/ development? It does matter since copyright rules are different for 2-d and 3-d work. But, in the end, if he paid you to do it, then it's HIS. He hired you. It was his idea, sure your developed it, but he HIRED YOU to do JUST THAT. Unfortunately, it's the way it goes for freelance artists. You are "for hire". If all freelancers took credit for every little thing people hired them for, then freelance artists would never get jobs. You DO need to talk to a lawyer. But before just choosing a lawyer, make sure you hire the right person that knows about the particular type of work you do. And I would also ask that lawyer to draft up a contract for your clients to sign when they want to hire you. Good luck getting people to sign it. Sorry to hear about this, but that's the way it goes for freelancers sometimes. ALWAYS discuss the parameters of the project before you start. Ask yourself this, is it REALLY important for you to keep the copyright of this design? It could end up costing you more money in the end if you try to fight it

Can someone offer me a little resume help

Can someone offer me a little resume help ?
I have been going to school for medical billing for the past year in a half and in that time I have been resorting to mainly freelance or odd-jobs work such as working at the flea market and selling for people over the internet. I have a good steady , full-time employment record with the exception of that year and a half. What kind of title and job description should I put on the resume for that period ? Thank you .
