I work full-time as a graphic designer, but am looking to take on a few small freelance jobs in my spare time. I have a mac and a decent printer. What else to I need or need to know??

Well of course you need the design programs to begin with. Alot of it depends on where you are located and what your skill level is. Check out some of the direct mail companies in your area. Alot of them hire freelance production artists. You won't get rich with them, but you can make a decent living. Working at home freelance style takes alot of discipline though.

try looking on craigslist for freelance gigs. be sure you're well-versed in adobe photoshop and illustrator. a big plus if you know HTML/CSS and layout design for websites. and also, having a good grasp of typography will come in handy, so make sure you know your Helveticas and Garamonds.
