How do I start a freelance Web Design business

How do I start a freelance Web Design business?
I want to make simple yet good sites for clients as a side job. Only a couple a month. I wanted to know how I would do this in detail.

Get a domain, get some people you trust. Get a plan, stick to it. :D

Start by making a page to showcase your work to prospective clients. If you need ideas of what to do, maybe offer to do your first job free, as an intern. Then you can put that on your resume as a reference.

What you are trying to do is not a simple task, and you're more likely to get a couple clients a year rather than every month, I can guarantee this. There's a difference between freelancing and starting an actual web design business. With freelancing, you can simply set up a website, create a nice portfolio of things you've designed/created in the past, and then look for clients. Post on forums, try out different websites. If you try, you eventually will find someone that will want to hire you with no strings attached. Starting a web design business, however, is different from freelancing. Starting your own business includes getting a legitimate name for you business, trademarking your business, filling out paperwork, and other garbage. That is, if you start a legitimate business and not just a stupid website that says your a business when you're really not. Freelancing or starting your own business in web design is not all peaches in cream. I've lost at least 30 jobs to outsource workers in India (how they even know how to get the jobs done right I will never know, or speak English for that matter). They work dirt cheap and people want to pay as less as possible for work. This is a huge problem with freelancing today. My best advice is find local business, in other words, don't look for clients on the web. You can meet people face to face, give them an honest price, and sometimes even avoid any contracts or paperwork. Get a local person that likes you and word may spread of your work. Try even doing some websites for free for people just to get a portfolio built up. Again, you will be lucky if you get 2 jobs in one year. It depends on how bad you push people to hire you, and if there is no bull crap involved in hiring you. Trust me, I've been trying to freelance for years and there's no steady money in it, even with programming and database.

except for a few local clients, people don't want simple. They do simple themselves. Like I said people in your hometown might contact you because you are local and they like to deal face to face but when you get out of town business they want ebay/youtube/facebook functionality for a few hundred dollars. The people that have a brain and are willing to pay usually don't call the little guy. Start by offering value to a customer. Now the customer's nephew who's 15 can make him a website but can you do it much better? and drive traffic to it? have you made a website that gets over 2000 unique visitors per month? over 15,000? Everyone and their brother does web design. Ask yourself what it is that you do that's better , then sell that.
