1. This might be obvious, but pick an industry for which you have proven skills (either from your previous job or through life experience). Analyze your strengths: Which alternative careers do you fit in and are ready for? 2. Take up a part-time job as it's easier than a full-time one. You can use the extra time to upgrade your skills or seek a full-time position. The freelance market too is also a good place for job hunting. 3. Don't rule out the power of references and the kind of leverage jobs in your local area can give you. I got my current assignment as a result of projects I did for local businesses over the summer
