Should I take this job online.

Should I take this job online...?
It's a freelance writing job. I got screwed over on one online job once before. After that I heard on a talk show that if you have to pay them first, than it's a scam. Well these guys want me to pay them first, but it's only $2.50 to sign up. So it sounds like it's at least worth the risk. Do you think I should take it? The company's name is Freelance Home Writers.com. I left a link to it so you can look it over yourself. Thanks.

Upfront fees are usually a red flag, the majority of job offers on the web are scams. I don't care for the sales 'squeeze" page front end of the site. There are too many offers that charge a little shipping fee, in order to get your credit card number, then make additional unauthorized (forced continuity) charges additional stuff. An alternative you should check out that's well respected by the search engines is freelancewriting.com One company that pays around $4 for short contributed articles (and now videos too) is associatedcontent.com There are few online jobs that allow you to collect a regular 40 hour a week, most people online are self employed, running some sort of business. This required some entrepreneurial initiative and creativity. Freelance writing is one of the most in demand resources on the web, they say "content is king" particularly for sites that depend on fresh content hungry search engines sending them visitors. You can get around $5 - $10 for a 500 word article for a web site, sometimes they will commission a freelance to write 10 articles on a subject at a time. The big money is in writing persuasive sales copy for marketing sites. Some well know copywriters get thousands for a single major product announcement email letter. You don't need to join a club through opaque sales pages, there are a number of freelance agencies that charge a small percentage, some biggies include elance.com, allfreelance.com, getafreelancer.com and project4hire.com. some are more programing and design oriented. You basically setup a portfolio, then bid on jobs, you don't always have to be the lowest bid to get a job. Writers are competing with a worldwide pool of talent, english speakers in 3rd world countries, like India are able to work for a small hourly wage. Those with a master of American English grammar can secure the more elite jobs. Another source of competition are packaged (plr) article packages created by writing teams in India. You can but a package of 24 articles to seed a web site for around $20. There are huge compilations of some 80,000 articles available for $100. The big problem with these stock articles, in addition to second rate quality, are the search engine originality criteria, the exact same article in 100 different places doesn't rate the search engine rating of an original piece. A device that addresses this are automated re-writers (article spinners) that rearrange text and substitute words to create an "original" piece. The articles can be almost unreadable by humans, but rank better in automated search engine examination. More advanced freelancers have their own web sites directly dealing with clientele, eliminating the agency cut. One tutorial I have seen the "Freelance Article Writing Secrets Course" provides advise on expanding your business and maximizing returns. This package who's author has a distinct Irish accent comes with video, ipod audio and written version of 1 hr 25 minutes of material, it sells for about $35, if you search includes "special offer" you may turn up a special selling for about $32
